THE WORLD'S LARGEST XBOX SERIES X HAS ARRIVED
By CHRISTIAN SMITH AND NATHAN SIMMONS
The Xbox Series X is an impressive piece of hardware, boasting the most powerful specs on the current market and redefining console gaming with consumer-friendly services like GamePass. It’s also quite large, with its design being comically compared to a mini fridge, but apparently it wasn’t large enough for one YouTuber, Michael Pick.
On June 20, 2022, Pick published a video on his YouTube channel in which he announced that he'd managed to create the world's largest Xbox Series X console. Although inspired when he saw Microsoft’s own attempt to create a giant version of the device, Pick was dismayed to learn that it wasn’t a functioning console and instead just a giant refrigerator shaped like an Xbox Series X.
Pick decided to build his own fully functional version, using plywood, outfitting sizable ports for HDMI and Ethernet cables, and creating a special compartment to house an actual Xbox Series X. Once completed, Pick’s console stood at 6.82 feet in height and 3.41 feet in diameter, weighed over 250 pounds, and set a Guinness World Record for the world's largest Xbox Series X.
Pick first transported the giant device to Texas, where fellow YouTuber Zach Hsieh — more popularly known as ZHC — added custom artwork to the console, and then to Atlanta, Georgia, where Pick donated the giant Xbox to the local YMCA Youth and Teen Development Center. In the video, a small group of children immediately lined up to play “Minecraft.”
