Lies Of P - Everything We Know So Far

"Lies of P" is an upcoming action game developed and published by Neowiz Games. This Soulslike game, a grim retelling of the story of Pinocchio, will have the player controlling the legendary puppet as he searches for Mr. Geppetto.

The game takes place in a city called Krat, according to the "Lies of P" website. It begins with Pinocchio waking up in an abandoned train station in the city. Unsure of how he got there, he finds a note instructing him to find Mr. Geppetto. Based on the website's brief story summary, Pinocchio does not know who Geppetto is. During Pinocchio's adventure, he'll encounter a wide variety of creatures in the city, which is described as being "overwhelmed with madness and bloodlust."

The story of Pinocchio is in the midst of a bit of a resurgence, with director Guillermo del Toro also working on a movie about the same tale. In "Lies of P," Pinocchio must lie in order to "become more human." This aspect of deception, according to the developer, is a major gameplay feature.

Neowiz began teasing the game in August 2021, based on its Steam timeline. The Twitter account began tweeting August 13, and the website was launched four days later on August 17. A few months later in November, the first bit of alpha gameplay was shown to the public.

When new gameplay was revealed at Gamescom Opening Night Live, many outlets – including GamesRadar+ – regarded it as the star of the event's first day. In fact, it was such a hit that attendees waited in line for more than two hours to play the brief demo that Neowiz offered at its booth.

Is there a trailer for Lies of P?

"Lies of P" impressed the gaming industry with its gameplay trailer at Gamescom Opening Night Live. In the trailer, Pinocchio can be seen exploring the streets of Krat. The protagonist even comes face-to-face with the mysterious Geppetto, who addresses him as his son. The trailer also shows a few unnamed characters that Pinocchio will interact with throughout the story.

With it being a gameplay trailer, Pinocchio is shown in action pretty extensively. Multiple encounters – that appear to be boss fights – show off the different kinds of threats he'll face on his journey. There are even glimpses of the different kinds of weapons and abilities the player will be able to use.

The environments are also shown off in the trailer. "Lies of P" is set in a Belle Epoque world. The term refers to a period of European history between the late 1800s and the beginning of World War I in 1914. Making its setting more distinct, the game infuses this period with steampunk gadgets and architecture.

What will the gameplay be like for Lies of P?

In addition to the gameplay trailer, a 12-minute section of gameplay has also been released. Based on the extended gameplay look, Neowiz isn't shying away from its influences. Anyone familiar with FromSoftware's work knows what to expect. Combat will be unforgiving; the map will be filled with secrets and optional bosses; and there will be a lot dying. Don't be surprised if "Lies of P" also has a rage-inducing first boss.

While the resemblance to "Bloodborne" is obvious, "Lies of P" is bringing more than a few of its own wrinkles to the Soulslike formula. The game's Twitter account said there will be 30 weapon types in the game, and each weapon will be able to be split into two pieces: the blade and the hilt. The hilt is what dictates attack motions and can be paired with any other blade.

As previously mentioned, lying to characters will play a major role in the narrative. When the player lies, they gain something called Humanity Points. The ending of the game will be based on how many of those points the player has accumulated by the end. Lying will also determine NPC interactions and the types of enemies the player will face.
