Elden Ring: How To Get To Mohgwyn Palace
While George R. R. Martin didn't write the main story of "Elden Ring," the overarching lore and worldbuilding is stamped with his signature penchant for family drama. The tale of Marika the Eternal and her Demigod children is riddled with the power struggles between half-siblings, gruesome assassinations, and dubious relationship dynamics. Despite being a central plot point, most of the details surrounding Marika's royal family are hidden behind non-mandatory side content. The most prominent example is Malenia, whose famously brutal boss fight spawned the legend of Let Me Solo Her and many other memorable streamer moments.
Malenia's not alone in the "ridiculously tough optional boss with family drama to share" category. Mohg — who abducted Malenia's twin Miquella in his own bid for the Elden Ring — is sequestered away in Mohgwyn Palace and takes quite a bit of legwork to reach. While defeating him won't let the player reunite Miquella and Malenia, Mohg does drop his own Great Rune and Remembrance that can be turned into powerful abilities or gear. For those wanting to challenge the Lord of Blood, here's a rundown on all the ways to get to Mohgwyn Palace in "Elden Ring."
Complete White Mask Varré's sidequest
The earliest way to access Mohgwyn's Palace is to complete the sidequest from White Mask Varré, the slightly unpleasant man who taunts you for being "maidenless" at the beginning of the game. Once you've defeated Godrick — or any other Demigod — and spoken to Finger Reader Enia, you can find White Mask Varré at the Rose Church in the Lakes of Liurnia region. When he asks for your take on the Two Fingers, reply "They didn't seem right" to receive five Festering Bloody Fingers. You'll need to use them to invade other players at least three times to advance the quest, though you don't necessarily need to win the invasions (via PC Gamer). As of patch 1.06, there is a way to complete this quest stage without invading other players: defeating the NPC invader Magnus the Beast Claw in the Writheblood Ruins.
Varré will then task you with soaking the Lord of Blood's Favor with a maiden's blood. There are a couple maiden corpses you can use, the closest to Varré being the one at the Church of Inhibition — you'll have to defeat an NPC invader upon arrival, so beware. You can also return to the maiden corpse found at the starting area of the game using a portal at the second of the Four Belfries marked with the message "Precipice of Anticipation." Upon returning, exhaust Varré's dialogue options until he gives you the Pureblood Knight's Medal, which you can then use to teleport straight to Mohgwyn Palace.
Unlock the Consecrated Snowfields
If you don't feel like playing along with Varré and being anointed as one of Mohg's knights, there's another way to access the palace found later in "Elden Ring" after you've unlocked the Mountaintops of the Giants. There's a waypoint into the palace hidden in the Consecrated Snowfields, which can only be accessed by activating the Grand Lift of Rold with the two halves of the Haligtree Secret Medallion.
One half can be found on the roof of a tower once you've defeated Commander Niall at Castle Sol — located to the northernmost corner of the Mountaintops — while the other is found in the Lakes of Liurnia near the Village of the Albinaurics. You'll have to find an NPC disguised as a pot along the path up from the Site of Grace, hit him, then talk to him to make him cough up the medallion piece.
With both halves in hand, head to the bottom of the Grand Lift and use the "switch action" prompt to "hoist secret medallion" in order to unlock the Consecrated Snowfields. Once there, travel north to find the Inner Consecrated Snowfield Site of Grace, then head west to the area north of the Yeloux Anix Ruins — you should be invaded by the NPC called Sanguine Noble at that point. Upon defeating him, the bloody teleport gate to the west will become active and can then be used to teleport to Mohgwyn Palace.
