Diablo Immortal: How To Use The Elder Rift

"Diablo Immortal" is poised to take the franchise in a new direction by bringing the previously PC- and console-exclusive dungeon crawler to mobile devices. There have been some controversies over the game's use of loot boxes, but it has received generally favorable reviews so far. It may not exactly be the sort of game fans asked for, but it at least provides a way for them to get some demon-slaying in while they're still waiting for "Diablo 4," all while featuring some familiar mechanics.

One of those mechanics is the Elder Rift. This tear in the fabric of space-time works a lot like the Greater Rifts did in "Diablo 3," allowing players to enter mini-dungeons that take around 2-5 minutes to complete. Here, players must rapidly fight hordes of enemies in order to unlock big rewards. Each of these arenas are completely randomized, so there's no way of knowing for sure what players will face if they choose to step through the portal. These challenges can seem a little intimidating at first, but the Elder Rift is definitely worth digging into.

Enter the rift

The entrance to the Elder Rift is located in Westmarch. Players can find it nestled between the Bounty Board and the Challenge Rift Obelisk, way up in the northwestern corner of town. They need only enter the rift, and they will be taken to a procedurally generated dungeon with random types of enemy mobs, Rift Guardians and pylons. These enemies scale with the player's level, so there is no need for them to worry about accidentally wandering into a fight they are under-leveled for.

Players can enter the rift for free, and they can do so as often as they want. The rifts also have no time limit, so all players have to worry about is defeating enemies and surviving the encounters. These dungeons aren't without a few tricks, though. The challenges come with different modifiers that add both benefits and harmful effects to the dungeon, giving each of them a unique flavor, so no two ever feel the same.

There are quite a few benefits to using the Elder Rift. Elite enemies will drop globes while Runes and gear are dropped after defeating the level's Rift Guardian. It's also a great way to grind experience. On top of all that, players can get even better rewards farming from these mini-dungeons if they use Crests (per Dot Esports). Rare and Legendary Crests add further modifiers that increase the chance of earning a Fading Ember — and even make it possible to earn a Legendary Gem, which can give the player stat boosts and other benefits (per Ginx).
