This Knights Of The Old Republic 2 Announcement Has Fans Rejoicing
The "Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic" franchise has been dormant for years, with fans losing hope that they would ever see the intended trilogy completed. The recently announced "Knights of the Old Republic" remake has got them excited, however, and brought renewed enthusiasm back to the series. "KotOR" has regularly been hailed as one of the best "Star Wars" games of all time. The second game is often overlooked, even though it features its own amazing story and unique cast of characters. "Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords" is set five years after the events of the first game. The player takes on the role of a new character called The Exile and must uncover the secrets behind a mysterious wound in the Force.
Fans have long known that "Knights of the Old Republic 2" was famously rushed to release since LucasArts wanted to get the game out just a year after the first game launched in order to capitalize on its popularity and try to take advantage of the holiday season (via lockesjourney). As a result, a lot of unpolished or otherwise incomplete content was cut from the game in order to make the deadline. Some dedicated fans have even created mods that restore some of the salvageable lost content. But now, it seems Nintendo Switch players will be able to play the game as the developers originally intended.
The new KotOR 2 will have restored content
Nintendo has recently released a trailer announcing that "KotOR 2" will be coming to the Switch. It states that the game will be released June 8, and that it is available for preorder now. What's even more interesting, though, is that the trailer also states that restored content will be added as DLC.
Senior Director of Business Development at Aspyr, Michael Blair was quoted on StarWars.com as stating, "With the resolution updates, performance optimizations, and 'The Sith Lords Restored Content DLC' coming post-launch, we hope gamers will see this becoming one of the ideal platforms to dive into the galaxy showcased in 'Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords.'" No other official sources seem to indicate what fans might expect from these additions to the game, but GameSpot has reported that the DLC will include "new crew dialogue, an extra mission featuring HK-47, and a 'new revamped ending.'"
The Nintendo store doesn't add any more information about how much of the removed content will be restored, but it does list the game at $15 in addition to a bundle containing the first and second game at $30. That seems like a reasonable price for fans who wish to be able to play an official, completed version of "KotOR 2" for the first time in almost 20 years.
