Elden Ring: How To Get The Dragoncrest Shield Talisman And What It Does
"Elden Ring" has been out since February 25, 2022, and like other games by FromSoftware's Hidetaka Miyazaki, it offers up an ultra-difficult combat experience without much hand-holding. Fortunately, the game provides dozens and dozens of helpful items and consumables to help even the score. Problem is, they can be difficult to find, and even once you do find them, the game doesn't always explain what they do.
Talismans are some of the most useful items in the game. They're magical medallions made from the Erdtree's sap, and they provide substantial buffs to the player. Equipping the right Talisman can be the difference between an easy boss fight and a frustrating slog that makes you throw your controller against the wall, and the Dragoncrest Shield Talisman is one of the most useful of them all. It's handy for nearly any build, and since it's available early in "Elden Ring," it should be high on your priority list. Here is how to get it and what it does.
The Dragoncrest Shield Talisman is found in Caelid
The closest Site of Grace relative to this Talisman is the Bestial Sanctum. This is also a useful spot for farming runes from nearby enemies early in the game.
However, locating the Talisman requires completing several drops from high platforms, and it can be tricky to locate the correct areas to make the plunge. Start by exiting the Bestial Sanctum and turn right. Also, since it's very easy to die on these jumps, it's best not to have too many Runes in your possession.
Head to the cliffs to the west and look down to see a massive tree root winding out of the rock. This is the first drop point, so step over the ledge and descend. From there, drop down to another lower tree root, and then onto the roof of a domed building. Make another leap down to the next-lowest platform. This is actually a tower jutting out from the main building. You'll alternate dropping between the tower and the main building for the rest of this walkthrough.
Keep on dropping until you reach the bottom of the structure
Look to the right and over the edge of the tower and drop to the next lowest ledge. This drop will cause a bit of fall damage, so you may want to consume Soft Cotton before the fall to reduce the injury.
Still facing west, jump across the gap to a ledge back on the main building. Failing this jump will be fatal, but you can employ your steed Torrent and his double jump to make it easier. Be warned that a giant bat will attack the moment you land on the ledge. Be ready to take it out.
Next, drop down yet another level to another, lower sloping roof on the main building. This drop will also cause fall damage, but there's a conveniently placed pillar you can land on to make it easier. Another giant bat will be waiting, so dispatch it.
From here, jump back across the gap back to the tower. Cross the walkway back across to the main building and drop down once again. From this ledge, look back at the tower and find the corner of the ledge. Get a running start, leap across, and land on it. This is the most difficult jump in the entire sequence, especially because Torrent is too big to fit on the corner.
From the corner, drop down once again to third sloping roof on the main building. Once again you will take falling damage, but you've arrived at the right level. Head west along the roof, either on foot or on Torrent. Continue on past several more towers and one more giant bat. The Dragonshield Talisman is located on a corpse just after the bat. Loot it, equip it, and you're good to go.
The Dragoncrest Shield Talisman is like an extra piece of armor
Like the item description says, the Dragoncrest Shield Talisman negates incoming physical damage. The base-level Dragoncrest Shield negates 10% of physical damage, which makes it particularly useful against bosses that pack a big punch. The Dragoncrest Shield is a handy item for all builds, but especially mage or rogue styles — basically, anyone who doesn't have the Stamina to equip the heaviest armors in the game.
Even better, there are two more Dragoncrest Shield Talisman variants available in the game. The Dragoncrest Shield Talisman +1 reduces 13% of damage. It's found inside a room locked by an imp statue in the Sainted Hero's Grave, which is in Altus Plateau. The Dragoncrest Shield Talisman +2 reduces 17% of damage. It's found later in the game, in the Crumbling Farum Azulia. It can be looted from a corpse located between the Dragon Temple Lift and the Dragon Temple Rooftop.
Even better than those two is the Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman. This one negates 20% of incoming physical damage. However, since it is found inside the Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree region, it most likely won't be available to you until very late in the game.
Happy damage-negating!
