Gears Of War Could Take A Page From Halo's Book
According to one rumor, Microsoft might have another massive game collection in the works. Nick Baker on the XboxEra Podcast shared that another franchise under the Xbox umbrella might be getting the "Halo: Master Chief Collection" treatment, possibly as soon as this year. For those unfamiliar, the "Halo: Master Chief Collection" put the first four "Halo" games into a single release, with multiplayer matchmaking for all of the games. The game had a rocky update, but was worked on for years, and eventually saw "Halo 3: ODST" and "Halo: Reach" added to the collection, with working multiplayer. While Baker didn't have too much to say, he confirmed that the next series to get the collection treatment would be "Gears of War." He said it could possibly launch this year, but it did not seem set in stone. This is just a rumor, so take it with a grain of salt, but the prospect is exciting.
"Gears of War" developer The Coalition is reportedly in the early stages of "Gears 6" and working on a new IP (via VGC.) It's possible that another studio is working on the rumored "Gears" collection. If the collection's arrival is as close as Baker believes, it will likely make an appearance at the Xbox and Bethesda showcase on June 12. While it might or might not actually be happening, here is what a "Gears of War" collection could look like.
What a Gears of War collection might look like
Based on the comparison to "Halo: The Master Chief Collection," it's possible to get an idea of what a "Gears of War" collection might look like. Considering that "Gears 5" already received an Xbox Series X|S upgrade, it likely won't be in the collection, similar to "Halo 5: Guardians" being excluded from "Halo: MCC." The original "Gears of War" got a remaster for the Xbox One, including its multiplayer, so that version will likely be included, with a possible remaster for "Gears of War 2" and "Gears of War 3."
For "Halo: MCC" Microsoft included the "Halo: CE" remaster it already made and created a remaster for "Halo 2," although those games are older than the "Gears of War" games. "Gears of War: Judgment" was a spin-off made by another studio, but like "Halo 3: ODST" and "Halo: Reach" it could still make the collection. The biggest question mark is "Gears of War 4," which released on Xbox One and can be played on the Xbox Series X|S. While it makes sense to include it, if Microsoft goes for a "Marcus Fenix" collection, it might only include the original trilogy. For now, "Gears" fans will have to wait until June 12 to find out if this rumor is true or not.
