Dead Space Remake Release Date, Trailer, And Platforms - What We Know So Far
It's been nearly a decade since "Dead Space 3" released, receiving strong praise, but ultimately falling short of the bar set by the first two games. The idea of a fourth game getting made quickly became unlikely, as EA shuttered the developer of the original "Dead Space" trilogy, Visceral Games. Now, so many years later, EA announced that it was remaking the original "Dead Space" with EA Motive taking the lead on the title. EA has shown off a bit of the game and confirmed that the controversial microtransactions that were in "Dead Space 3" will not be present in the remake.
It seems as though the popularity of Capcom's remake of "Resident Evil 2" in 2019 sparked a few other developers to spin up remakes of their own. Now, EA has continued to provide a steady stream of developer videos, culminating in the reveal of the remake's release date, which is sooner than you might think. Here is when you can expect to get your hands on the "Dead Space" remake.
Dead Space remake release date
The "Dead Space" remake releases on January 27, 2023. Considering that the "Dead Space" remake was revealed in July 2021, that's a roughly 18-month turnaround, which feels pretty fast. Granted, EA did not reveal how long EA Motive has been working on the "Dead Space" remake before it was revealed. Considering the number of video games that get delayed, especially since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is possible that the "Dead Space" remake will not hit that date.
While the first two "Dead Space" games are considered to be great, "Dead Space 2" sneaks in as the best game in the series, with a 90 on Metacritic. Probably not a coincidence that the "Dead Space" remake release date is so close to "Dead Space 2," which was released on January 25, 2011. With the "Dead Space" remake landing in January 2023, it looks like 2023 has a chance at being one of the best years for video games, with plenty of other juggernauts scheduled as well.
Dead Space remake trailer
The "Dead Space" YouTube channel has 13 different videos showing off different aspects of the game. With the exception of the announcement trailer, which is a short and vague CGI trailer, none of them are considered a "trailer." That said, the video that best represents what you can expect out of the "Dead Space" remake is the "Engine Room Walkthrough." The roughly 3-and-a-half minutes of gameplay don't include any monsters or aliens, but it does show a few small instances of puzzle-solving.
It also gives a strong idea of what the atmosphere of the "Dead Space" remake will have, showing a fidelity and art style that is much closer to a finished product than some of the other videos. While it's unknown when you can expect EA to drop a full-blown trailer for "Dead Space" remake, it will likely be released before the end of the year, perhaps at The Game Awards or at Gamescom.
Dead Space remake platforms
"Dead Space" remake is set to release only on current-gen consoles. This means that it will only be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. For "Dead Space" fans who haven't made the jump from PS4 or Xbox One, you have until January to get your hands on a new console. "Dead Space" remake joins "Gotham Knights" as one of the few non-first party games that are ditching last-gen consoles.
As for the reason why the "Dead Space" remake is only available on current-gen consoles, EA Motive provided a few reasons. Developers from EA Motive (via IGN) stated that the tech in the current-gen consoles allows them to fully realize their vision. This includes using the SSDs in the new consoles in a way that allows them to avoid cutting to a loading screen, taking people out of the atmosphere. As more consoles get into people's hands, expect more companies to release games on new consoles only, leaving the PS4 and Xbox One behind.
