Sodapoppin Gets Honest About Why He Hasn't Been Streaming
Chance "Sodapoppin" Morris is one of the biggest streamers on Twitch. He attracted many people to his channel with his "World of Warcraft" streams before becoming one of the platform's most prolific "Among Us" streamers during its explosive spike in popularity in 2020. His channel has accrued over 8 million followers since he first started streaming back in 2012 and has continued to grow. That doesn't mean that his time on the platform hasn't had some turbulence, however.
His first ban was issued last year after he visited a NSFW anime VR space in the game "VR Chat" before letting loose a stream of obscenities and abruptly ending his stream. The ban was brief, only lasting 24 hours before Sodapoppin was back online. His second ban lasted much longer. The reason for the ban was never officially announced, but many fans suspect it was due to a game of "Are You Smarter Than the Crowd?" in which he was supposed to give his character a face. He took brown makeup and applied it to the character, calling it "blackface" before using red makeup to draw exaggerated, bright red lips. He later tried to cover the brown makeup in green, declaring that he was trying to do the Joker, but by then the damage was done. Since then, Sodapoppin has been relatively quiet. Even though he's been allowed to stream again, he's only broadcasted five out of the thirteen days since his return and he recently posted a tweet to let his fans know why.
Sodapoppin hasn't felt like streaming
Sodapoppin streamed the first four days in a row after his return, but has only streamed once in the time since. Apparently, this led many fans to wonder if something was wrong, or if he was perhaps still dealing with the backlash from the events that led to his ban. He posted a tweet after a four-day absence from Twitch, stating, "Sorry haven't streamed lately[.] I just haven't felt like it and I don't force myself to do it. Might be live [tomorrow,] might not be[.] Not sure[.] /shrug Just tweeting this cause people keep asking me if something is up and nah[.] I just don't wanna lol[. Nothing] else."
His message seems to indicate that the impromptu break has nothing to do with his ban, though many wondered if that was actually the case. Most of his fans seemed supportive of the break. Several of them suggested that he should try spending some time outdoors, noting that sitting in front of your computer all day is unhealthy. @hailey7_ wrote, "I know you hate leaving your house but sounds like you need a vacation (go lay by some pretty water somewhere)" while @Pepeeeega suggested he "do some irl s***, you are hanging around indoors way too much." Others have noted that there has been a trend of Sodapoppin not enjoying his streams the way he used to. It remains to be seen if his schedule will return to normal.
