Elden Ring: How To Solve The Converted Fringe Tower Puzzle
The Converted Fringe Tower is one amongst the many towers of "Elden Ring" that house a secret reward locked behind a riddle or puzzle — in this case, the Cannon of Haima and Gavel of Haima, two powerful Glintstone sorceries well-suited for magic-based builds. Located to the northeast of the Raya Lucaria Academy (home of the beautiful and powerful Queen Rennala), the tower has a top floor that can only be accessed by solving the hint phrase at the base: "May erudition light the way!"
It's all very thematically appropriate, of course. And thankfully, the answer isn't half as obscure or misleading as the one given for the invisible bridge at Heretical Rise. The player only has to equip one of the Glintstone Crowns of the academy and perform the "Erudition" gesture in front of the door. However, the relatively intuitive simplicity of the solution is offset by the effort required to actually perform it: A player has to acquire the gesture and gear in question to begin with — and they're something of a chore to track down if you haven't already cleared most of the Academy's map.
Still, those spells are well worth the extra detours if you're running a Glintstone caster build — here's how to find the "Erudition" gesture and Glintstone Crown needed to solve the Converted Fringe Tower puzzle.
It's all at the Academy
The first step is to find the NPC that teaches you the gesture. Thops is a former student of the Academy who can be found at the Church of Irith, located to the far south of the Converted Fringe Tower itself. Thops will give you his sidequest upon asking him about the Academy Glintstone Key. The quest requires you to have progressed past the Red Wolf of Radagon and gained access to the Debate Parlour Site of Grace. Using this as a starting point, you'll then have to traverse across the rooftops to grab the key from atop the chandeliers of the Church of the Cuckoo.
Once you hand over the key to Thops and learn the "Erudition" gesture, you'll have to find a Glintstone Crown. Do note, however, that only the five crowns found within the Academy itself qualify for solving the puzzle: the Lazuli, Twinsage, Karolos, Olivinus, and Witch Glintstone Crowns. If you've been thorough in exploring so far, you'll most likely have one of these already; if not, the Karolos crown can be looted from a crystallized crab just a short jog from the Debate Parlour (per Gamer Guru).
After this, all that's left to do is equip the crown and perform the gesture in front of the locked door at the tower. There is another enemy past the door, so be careful, and enjoy your new spells.
