Dead By Daylight Reveals A First For The Franchise
One of the things that makes "Dead by Daylight" stand out from other co-op survival horror games is its ever expanding cast of characters. The game launched in 2016 with a handful of killers and survivors, but that cast has grown exponentially in the years since. The game has welcomed iconic faces such as Pinhead from "Hellraiser" and Freddy Kreuger from "Nightmare on Elm Street," while also introducing several original characters such as Ji-Woon, a K-pop-inspired slasher. While the cast is large, however, there hasn't been a whole lot of character development. This is more or less what you might expect in a game that's primarily about a killer roaming around an ethereal fog trying to bump off the other four players and sacrifice them to an eldritch creature.
But as dedicated players know, characters can recover memories from the time before The Entity took them by completing Tome challenges in The Archives. These in turn allow players to learn more about who these characters were before. And now, Behaviour Interactive has just announced a new detail about one of its most popular survivors is about to be revealed — and it's a monumental first for the long-running horror title.
David King is the franchise's first gay character
On April 27, Behaviour Interactive announced, "One of the cornerstones of that community are our LGBTQIA2+ players, who continue to elevate 'Dead by Daylight' with their tireless passion for horror, gaming, and of course – horror gaming. The fact that our character roster did not openly feature any confirmed LGBTQIA2+ representation was something we have been determined to change." The post went on to explain that Behaviour Interactive chose Survivor David King as the game's first confirmed gay character in coordination with GaymerX, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting positive LGBTQ+ representation in gaming spaces and assisting developers.
King's character was first introduced in the game's "A Lullaby for the Dark" chapter back in 2017. It has since been revealed that this rough and tumble survivor spent time working as a debt collector. And now, according to Behaviour Interactive's post, a new memory will be revealed in the "Devotion" expansion that will reveal more about King's identity. "With DEVOTION comes another memory from David King's life before he was taken by The Entity," the post states. "In 'The Importance of Being King,' gain a deeper insight into a new side of David's character, one that explores a deep personal connection and expands the scope of his backstory."
The "Devotion" expansion for "Dead by Daylight" launches April 28.
