Kirby And The Forgotten Land: How To Beat Gorimondo, The First Main Boss
"Kirby and the Forgotten Land" is a game to remember. The modern-day entry in the beloved series has won over the hearts of critics, carrying on Kirby's 30-year legacy. One of the best parts of "Kirby and the Forgotten Land" is its new Mouthful Mode, which gives Kirby a bunch of new abilities based on what objects he gets his mouth around. From cars to cones to light bulbs and beyond, Kirby's abilities are impressive. And, the petite pink powerhouse can now add to his impressive yet alarming list of things he's swallowed.
Like the main character himself, "Kirby and the Forgotten Land" is also quite short and sweet at only 10 hours long. That means it won't take players long to get to the game's first main boss: Gorimondo. This gargantuan gorilla can be found in "The Brawl at the Mall" level, where he'll pull Kirby through a glass window in the food court to an outdoor battle arena.
How to beat Gorimondo
Beating Gorimondo is fairly straightforward, likely because he's meant to help ease players into boss battles in "Kirby and the Forgotten Land." After using the joystick to wiggle free from the gorilla's grip, Kirby is ready for battle. Weapon selection isn't something to sweat over too much, as different people have found success with blowing balls, ice abilities, and a sword.
The fight with Gorimondo unfolds in two phases, the first of which is easier than the second. The first phase involves two primary attacks. Kirby will get rocks thrown at him from a distance, and if he gets too close, Gorimondo will swipe him with his arms. Dodging and jumping are the name of the game, as well as gathering the stars the gorilla sheds with attacks. Once Kirby has hacked off half of Gorimondo's health, it's onto the second phase.
Realizing he's 50% closer to death, Gorimondo becomes enraged in the second phase, beating his chest and upping his attack game. Kirby will then have to dodge the primate's spinning attacks and shockwave stomps. Knowing the rhythm of what to expect in this boss battle will set one up for success, plus a few key tactics. Balancing distance and closeness will help players slip in between Gorimondo's attacks to deal their own. It's especially important to get between his legs when possible for easy slicing and dicing, which also helps players with a secret mission.
Fighting Gorimondo in "Kirby and the Forgotten Land" isn't one's average trip to the mall, but going in with confidence and awareness of what's to come will make this beast a relatively easy boss to beat.
