Everything We Know About Fortnite Chapter 3 - Season 1

RIP "Fortnite" Chapter 2, players have new horizons to conquer. The first Season of the long-awaited third chapter of "Fortnite" is here, and there are a lot of new details to get excited about. From altered maps to new guns, Epic Games updated fans about what to expect on their blog, but that doesn't mean fans don't have questions about the extensive new additions to the game.

The "Fortnite" universe has a complicated timeline, and Chapter 3 promises to make it even more interesting by adding Marvel hero Spider-Man to the mix. While one of Spidey's most infamous villains headed to "Fortnite" in 2020, the wall-crawler himself has yet to appear — until now. Even more exciting, Spider-Man's web-shooters will appear in the game starting on Dec. 11. Players will be able to use the iconic gloves to swing from buildings after sliding, and can even recreate some classic Spider-Man scenes by swinging from the newly included Daily Bugle building. Epic also noted that players should "look out for new Spideys (plus a few friends and foes) dropping into the Item Shop throughout the Season." It's possible that other Spider-Man favorites will be appearing in "Fortnite" soon.

In addition to Spider-Man, a slew of other new faces will appear in Chapter 3, like The Foundation, a new character played by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. While fans suspected Johnson would be appearing in "Fortnite," the actor essentially confirmed his appearance on Twitter. Before Spider-Man or The Foundation appears, six new heroes will be available for fans to enjoy, including a native to the Island named Haven.

But new characters aren't the only exciting things happening in Chapter 3. There's a lot more the new content has to offer, including a refigured map.

The map's been flipped

The Island gets a makeover in Chapter 3, flipping into an entirely new set of locations. Epic explained that the western half of the Island is now "a wintry biome," putting Logjam Lumberyard and Greasy Grove in a perpetual winter. The eastern half of the island is more tropical and summery, with the Daily Bugle towering above the rest of the scenery. Additionally, the Seven — a new, mysterious group that escaped the Loop and seeks to free others — also has several outposts on the more tropical side of the Island, giving players new lore to uncover.

The southmost section of the Island is now a dry desert, where there's a new race track called Chonker's Speedway. Perhaps most importantly, the Butter Barn and Mancakes, the pancake-headed cowboy, return to "Fortnite" in Chapter 3. No word yet on whether players will find themselves singing "Butter Barn Hoedown" on repeat after playing on the new maps.

New weapons and items

Players can expect new weapons, of course, as is customary with any update to "Fortnite." Some of the weapons even tie into the lore of The Seven, like the MK-Seven Assault Rifle, which was "built from the Seven's technology." Chapter 3 will also include a new Ranger Assault Rifle, Striker Pump Shotgun, and a Hunter Bolt-Action Sniper for shooting down foes from a distance.

There are also new items to help players navigate the Island effectively. Med-Mist allows players to heal themselves and their teammates, and it continues to work for as long as it's sprayed. While the can will run out of medicine eventually, it provides players the opportunity to heal a little or a lot based on what they need at the moment. If Med-Mist is a bit too clinical for players' tastes, there's always the new Guzzle Juice, which gradually heals but makes the drinker more vulnerable to attacks while recovering.

New "Fortnite" items — along with new quests and play modes — seem to emphasize working together in a group, suggesting that Chapter 3 will begin focusing on ways for friends to play together more smoothly. Nothing says camaraderie like one of the game's new features: tents.

Camping and quests

For those that want to take a break from all the action, there are a few new pastimes, including camping. Players can assemble a tent somewhere on the map and spend some time resting with their group in order to heal up. Better yet, they can leave items in the tent to use in later matches. Epic confirmed that two item slots are available in each tent automatically, but players can rent a third slot for a price. Players will be able to pack up their tents and move to a new location, or simply access their stored items from any other tent they own. While camping offers a fun way for friends to enjoy the rich landscape of the Island, it also offers a way to guarantee certain items by storing them for future use.

"Fortnite" is also changing the way it begins quests, according to Epic. "In Chapter 3 Season 1, weekly Quests are no longer initiated on the Island itself. Instead, you can see what the Quests are in the "Quests" page in the Lobby — so you already know what you're gonna do before you board the Battle Bus," the blog post read. Players will now be able to plan out their quests more efficiently, by selecting what they want to do before leaving for the Island.

Additionally, a new quest will be available in the Sanctuary featuring "The Device," a communications tool from The Scientist. This quest will surely flesh out the lore behind The Seven and provide more information on what's going on with the Island and all its recent changes. Epic promised that "The Device" quests will "lead beyond the season" and offer up hints at what's to come.
