Everything We Know About Call Of Duty: Vanguard Season One
"Call of Duty: Vanguard" drops on Nov. 5, though fans will have to continue waiting until December 2 before Season One and it's associated content drops. In the meantime, fans are chomping at the bit to find out everything they can about what features will be available. What kinds of weapons will there be? What maps will players be traversing? Which classic modes will be making a return and what new sorts of gameplay can players expect to see?
Plenty of details have come out about the main game in the months since it was first announced. Players were intrigued to discover that Activision has developed a new Ricochet anti-cheat system to combat the rampant cheating which has been present in "Call of Duty: Warzone," but were also disappointed to hear the news that the popular Ranked Play mode will not be returning at launch.
And when it comes to Season One of "Call of Duty: Vanguard," a few interesting bits have been teased via Activision writer Daniel Noel and the official "Call of Duty" social media channels. Here's everything that's been revealed so far.
Maps galore in Call of Duty: Vanguard
The official Call of Duty twitter account has already announced that there will be 20 maps for gamers to play at launch, four of which will be dedicated to the game's Champion Hill mode and 16 for regular multiplayer matches. It has also announced that multiplayer will feature "Diverse areas," "New Gunsmith systems" and a "New Champion Hill mode." Many players have already had a chance to see and experience Champion Hill during the alpha for "Call of Duty: Vanguard."
Over on PlayStation.Blog, Daniel Noel revealed that fans can expect "free content [including] Shipment, the classic frenetic Multiplayer experience re-fitted for 'Vanguard,' scheduled for a November 17 arrival" as part of the pre-season content leading up to Season One. As a fan favorite mode, it makes sense that Shipment would launch a bit sooner than the rest of Season One's content.
Noel also detailed the new map, Caldera, explaining just how much work has gone into its creation: "Lush forests and rocky crags. White sand beaches and mysterious ruins. A dormant volcano towering over 200-plus points of interest. The new map Caldera is just the beginning of Vanguard's full integration into Warzone. Roughly the size of Verdansk, Caldera's design is informed by two years of research and community feedback." A limited-time event titled "Secrets of the Pacific" which will launch Nov. 24, which will allow players to learn more about Caldara in the week leading up to its release and the launch of Royale mode in "Vanguard."
Call of Duty: Vanguard's Battle Pass perks
Noel also explained that Season One marks the start of the first integrated Battle Pass system across both "Call of Duty: Vanguard" and "Warzone." Players can expect "three unique Operators, new Zombies content, new weapons, fresh challenges, and more." That's a lot of fresh material.
The post describes the addition of up to 100 tiers of items which can be unlocked in the Battle Pass system, including weapon blueprints, cosmetic content, and two new functional weapons. Activision has yet to state what kind of weapons these will be, though the "Call of Duty" announcement refers to them as "iconic WWII weapons." In other words, history buffs may be particularly excited to see these weapons in action.
According to the official "Call of Duty" website, the Battle Pass Bundle is good for one season and includes 20 tier skips, five hours of double player XP and five hours of double weapon XP. It can be purchased for 2400 CoD Points (valued at $19.99 USD), but it's also included in the "Call of Duty: Vanguard" Ultimate Edition.
PlayStation players get an edge in Call of Duty: Vanguard
As revealed in the PlayStation.Blog post by Daniel Noel, PlayStation players will receive a few extra perks. According to Noel, "PlayStation players who purchase the Battle Pass Bundle will get an additional 5 Tier Skips — that's a total of 25 Tier Skips." The additional tier skips might make the cost of the Battle Pass Bundle even more appealing, as it will certainly help players get in fighting shape quicker than others.
PlayStation Plus members will also receive a free, exclusive in-game bundle containing "a new Operator Skin, Weapon Blueprint, and much more" to celebrate season one. Activision also promises a free bundles with each future "Call of Duty: Vanguard" season.
It doesn't end there though. According to Noel, "PlayStation players that play together in parties receive +25% bonus weapon XP. Additionally, PlayStation players can look forward to exclusive Monthly Double XP events, lasting 24 hours in duration each. Finally, to make sure you're ready for whatever your enemies throw at you, PlayStation players get an additional two loadout slots."
These bonuses are likely to be controversial among fans on other platforms, but players will see how it all shakes out when Season One of "Call of Duty: Vanguard" launches Dec. 2.
