New Call Of Duty The Haunting Skins Explained
"Call of Duty" has a history of celebrating Halloween with spooktastic limited-time events. This time, The Haunting comes to "Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War" and "Call of Duty: Warzone" with limited-edition items based on popular horror movies alongside other Halloween-worthy bundles. Sure, the "Ghosts of Verdansk" mode, much like last year's Zombie Royale, is the main event as a soul-stealing tag game. However, the hype horror skins are another reason to celebrate.
The Haunting takes over Verdansk from October 19 to November 2. Players can purchase a number of seasonal items from the store during this time. While all the goodies featured in the event haven't been announced or released yet, fans are already excited for new ways to frighten enemy soldiers. All the Halloween packages include a spooktastic skin that fits the Halloween spirit along with a variety of other items that either represent that skin's inspiration or impart some kind of creepy vibe.
Here's everything you need to know about these skins and what you can get from their bundles.
Scream Operator Bundle
The Tracer Pack: Scream Operator Bundle features Ghostface from the "Scream" film franchise. Players who purchase this limited-time pack can dress as the horror icon, complete with his stretched, skull-like mask and long dark robe. It might be a frightfully clever advertisement for the new "Scream" movie coming to theaters in 2022, but it's no real surprise to see Ghostface considering how popular the series is.
The Scream Operator Bundle includes three Legendary Weapons Blueprints for the Plot Twist Assault Rifle, Slasher SMG, and Ghost Blade Melee Weapon, which resembles the knife Ghostface uses on his victims in the movies. Plot Twist and Slasher also implement red and white tracer fire for stylishly horrific kills. Other items in the bundle reference the Scream series with the "Violent End" Finishing Move, the "Cordless Phone" Weapon Charm, the "Scary Hours" Watch, and an animated Emblem and Calling Card. "Violent End" repeatedly stabs the victim before Ghostface whispers "I am death" in a slow, deep voice. The "Cordless Phone" charm acts as a nod to the phone calls Ghostface made to a victim in the original "Scream" film, which was set in the 1990s. It's unclear when exactly the "Scream Operator Bundle" will disappear, so fans should snag it while they can.
Donnie Darko Bundle
"Donnie Darko" may have bombed at the box office, but it's become a cult classic psychological thriller, satire, romance, and horror film all in one. The Donnie Darko Bundle features Frank The Rabbit, a monstrous rabbit that stars in the main character's "hallucinations" throughout the film. Frank doesn't look like any old rabbit — he has dull, white eyes and a cracked, goblin-like mask with crooked ears. This horror icon stars as a skin for operator Baker.
The Donnie Darko bundle also comes with the "Sky is Falling" Finishing Move, which fans of the movie should recognize. Any Operator can apparently cause "an unfortunate accident" for those caught with their back exposed. Players who purchase the bundle will also get three Legendary Weapon Blueprints for the Sniper Rifle, SMG, and Assault Rifle — all of which feature Frank's likeness and come loaded with purple tracer bullets for extra flair. Four Epic items including a jet engine Weapon Charm, Calling Card, Emblem, and Watch also come with the bundle.
The Donnie Darko Limited-Time Bundle drops October 24 in both "Black Ops Cold War" and "Warzone." So, Frank the Rabbit isn't here yet, but the countdown to the end of the world should start soon.
Necro Queen Bundle
"Necro Queen" isn't a character from a horror movie or game, even though she might look like one. Activision introduced her as someone who can help "bring the dead to life and siphon the souls of the living," so maybe she does rule the undead or some subsection of it in "Call of Duty." The Necro Queen bundle features a skin that dresses operator Portnova in an ancient, tattered black dress and chain-adorned helmet that changes the image underneath the mask every few seconds. One moment shows a hollowed skull, and then the face of a screaming woman the next.
COD Tracker also lists all the other goodies her tracer pack bundle comes with, from blueprints to charms. The Ultra Void Monster Blueprint stands out as a flashy alternative look for the heavy-hitting Assault Rifle. Other guns include two Legendary Weapon Blueprints for the Void Demon SMG and Void Ghoul Tactical Rifle. All these guns shoot purple tracer rounds, sure to light up a dark and dreary Halloween night. Players should also enjoy the "Hack Saw" Epic Charm, "Stolen Time" Watch, and animated emblems and calling cards.
Disciple of Mayhem Bundle
Weaver's Disciple of Mayhem Skin takes inspiration from the Disciple enemy that stars in the latest zombie mode in "Call of Duty." This tracer pack enables Weaver, a playable operator and C.I.A. Special Activities Officer, to dress as a fiery, skull-faced Disciple. Disciples can strengthen their zombie brethren and drain life force from operators in "Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War" and "Call of Duty: Warzone" in Zombies Mode, but thankfully this Disciple skin doesn't quite give Weaver the ability to strengthen zombie hordes. However, it does give him the "Repairs with Klaus" Finishing Move, which is a tag-team kill between Weaver and robot buddy Klaus from the "Mauer der Toten" Zombies map. The Disciple of Mayhem bundle also enables Klaus as a lobby companion. This bundle includes three Legendary Weapon Blueprints that should add even more character to the costume.
Dot Esports reported that players can also earn a variant of the Disciple of Mayhem skin for completing operator quests after they have the original skin. It's another reason to earn COD points too, so it should be a plus for Disciple fans.
Lumens Maxis Bundle
Last but not least, the Tracer Pack: Lumens Maxis Ultra Bundle drops on Halloween. It's not clear what a "Lumens" is, but the bundle does feature illuminating purple light in its tracer fire and other neon-colored goodies. Make a glowing entrance with the Lumens skin for operator Maxis and one of the three Legendary Weapon Blueprints with electric purple bullets. The Lumens skin shaves off a portion of Maxis' hair and colors it bright green to match her purple eyes and ghoulishly pale skin.
Other items in the Lumens bundle include the "Stick Up" Finishing Move, "No Vacancy" Epic Charm, "Fist Bump" Epic Gesture, Blueprints with Electric Tracer Fire, Lightning Dismemberment, and Electric Elemental Damage in Zombies Mode. Anime fans should also enjoy her animated emblem and calling card, which features an anime-styled girl with bun-styled hair and stylistically bright-colored artwork.
It's fitting to have Samantha Maxis, known as Maxis for short, as the star in a Halloween bundle because of her reoccurring status as a character in zombie-related quests and modes throughout the series. She originally appears as a young girl in "Call of Duty: World at War" and returns as an adult in "Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War" as part of the Dark Aether story.
