How To Unlock The Free Rewards In Fortnite's Best Friendzy Event
The "Fortnite" Best Friendzy event encourages friends to play together to unlock free in-game rewards. However, you can't just squad up the usual way and expect it to work. Follow these preliminary steps to join the "frendzy" frenzy.
First, register for the event through the Best Friendzy official site and link your Epic account. This site also tracks points between you and your companions. Invited friends should receive the rewards you earn together without registering. However, they might want to register anyway so that they can track their own points, set their daily bonus time (they take yours by default), and earn points with other friends.
Keep playing with the same friend to max out your friendship points. According to the Best Friendzy FAQ, point progression isn't for the number of points you gather across your friends in total, it's the points between you and one friend, thus the "best friend" event name pun. You can only participate in the event with friends on your "Fortnite" friend list, so add them before sending an invite.
How to earn Best Friendzy event points
Per the official event announcement, players earn points based on the amount of time they play "Fortnite" with friends. Every 10 minutes equals 1 point for either Battle Royale and Creative Mode. However, participants can play Battle Royale in Duos, Trios, and Squads for an unlimited amount of time while Creative Mode caps the limit at 6 points per day (one hour only).
Players also have the option to activate a special 60-minute daily bonus mode that triples the amount of points earned playing "Fortnite." For example, every 10 minutes would become 3 points instead of just one. If you play the entire hour, then that's already 18 points! However, like the name might suggest, daily bonus mode is only available once a day for the hour you activate it.
You can only change your daily bonus if you register on the site. Otherwise, you're stuck with a default time. If you signed up for the event yourself, you should be able to change the daily bonus time just fine. But, if you only played through an invite from a friend who registered, then you need to register yourself. Strict daily bonus times can be inconvenient if you can't play that time because of work or school, so be sure to register if that matters to you.
What Best Friendzy items can you pick up with your points?
The "Fortnite" Best Friendzy event features four new items, each with their own point cost:
- Outer Space Handshake Emoticon = 3 points
- Invasion Remix Track = 10 points
- Life's a Beach Wrap = 20 points
- Aquari-Axe Pickaxe = 50 points
The Outer Space Handshake Emoticon should take 30 minutes of your time because 10 minutes equals 1 point in either Battle Royale or Creative Mode. Daily bonus mode racks up these points even faster. Based on the event FAQ, players should receive their rewards within an hour after they reach the number of points needed "or such other time as reasonably required by Epic for such grant."
If you're curious about the math, then it should take about 6 and a half hours (18 points for 1 hour of daily bonus plus 320 minutes) to earn all these rewards in one day if you use the daily bonus. If you want to spend as little time as possible claiming these rewards, then just one hour each for three days using the daily bonus mode should be enough to surpass the 50 points needed for Aquari-Axe Pickaxe, the "most expensive" reward out of the four.
Keep in mind that these rewards are purely cosmetic. There's no need to participate in the event if you don't want them. In fact, even though Best Friendzy marks the debut of these new "Fortnite" items, they're not exclusive. Epic says that they might be available "for purchase or otherwise" at a later date.
