Dead Space Remake - What We Know So Far
Are you a fan of the "Dead Space" franchise? If so, you may be disappointed that you never got to play a "Dead Space 4." Well, the good news is that the wait for a new game is finally over! No, there's not another sequel coming out, but what is on the way should get fans excited.
During EA Play Live 2021, news broke that a "Dead Space" remake is in the works from Motive Studio. Considered one of the greatest horror games of all time, gamers can only imagine what terror awaits in a reimagining that's powered by next-gen technology. While this announcement is exciting, it didn't completely come out of left field.
A month before the trailer dropped on YouTube, fans were scrambling after an EA rumor circulated that an older franchise would soon be revived. These reports accurately predicted that the project would be unveiled at the then-upcoming EA Play Live.
Now that the news is out, you're probably eager to learn when the new "Dead Space" will be released, what the trailer is like, and how the game will play. This is what there is to know so far.
When is the Dead Space remake coming out?
Are you champing at the bit to get your hands on the "Dead Space" remake? If so, you may want to replay the originals for the time being (except for maybe "Dead Space 3," which some consider the game that ruined the franchise). The trailer dropped without any mention of a release date — not even a year. It's safe to assume that this project is in the very early stages of development and may not be out next year, or even the year after that.
Fans in the trailer's comment section were quick to highlight how long it's been since the last game came out. Many users are thrilled that "after 8 years this is making a return." Even without a release date, they seem to be satisfied with the knowledge that a new "Dead Space" is in the works.
According to the description in the trailer, the remake is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Be sure to check back for updates as more information moves down the pipeline.
What is the Dead Space remake trailer like?
The trailer for "Dead Space" that aired during EA Play Live 2021 is brief, but it's enough to set the mood for what's to come.
It opens on a blank screen with many jarring mechanical sounds to keep the audience alert. Almost ten seconds in, viewers are taken through an opening door into a dimly lit enclosed space with sparks flying. The next shot reveals blood on the floor grates, then fades back to the first shot. A flickering light highlights a ghoulish figure, presumably feasting on some fresh flesh. After a few beats, the creature raises its terrifying claw-like limbs, followed by a cut to black.
A new scene fades in as the camera shows Isaac Clarke leaning on a table with his back facing the audience. His suit presumably powers up as he straightens his posture to see a message written in blood that reads "Cut off their limbs." The trailer ends on the game's title with a voice ominously reciting a verse from "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star."
What will the gameplay be like for the new Dead Space?
Details surrounding the next "Dead Space" game are slim. The trailer doesn't provide much insight into how it will play, but perhaps the video's description can offer a few clues.
It's probably safe to assume that if you've played the older games, you'll be familiar with the remake. This one promises "to offer a deeper and more immersive experience," utilizing EA's Frostbite Engine to build an entirely new rendition of the original story from scratch.
The game will follow a lone engineer named Isaac Clarke who works for a spaceship that's been taken over by alien creatures known as "necromorphs." He must "battle for survival, not only against the escalating terrors of the ship, but his own crumbling sanity." On top of that, he is on the lookout for his "beloved partner, Nicole" while trying to figure out how the ship fell to the necromorphs.
More than likely, you'll have to fight off these creatures while conducting repairs to the ship. The description explains that "Isaac is alone with only his tools and engineering skills," which might hint at some crafting mechanics. That's all there is for now, but hopefully more details will emerge in the near future.
