Injustice 2 Story Trailer Promises That Superman's 'Regime Will Rise'
Injustice: Gods Among Us ended with the rogue Superman's reign of terror coming to an end, his army of supervillains dismantled, and the Man of Steel himself powerless thanks to a cell drenched in red sunlight, but Injustice 2 proves that you can't keep a good (or superpowered) dictator down for long. In Injustice 2's brand new story trailer, Superman is out of prison and attempting to rebuild the empire that he lost. As before, Batman stands in his way.
The video, titled "Shattered Alliances" explains Superman's mission (to fight until crime has been eradicated) and features Batman fighting Wonder Woman, Batman fighting Cyborg, Batman fighting the Blue Beetle—basically, it's Batman versus everyone, with a showdown against the Last Son of Krypton serving as the video's climax.
Batman won't be going it entirely alone, of course. According to the trailer, Kara Zor-El (aka Supergirl) will duke it out with both the Red Lantern leader Atrocitus and her more famous cousin, while a brawl between Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn also gets a major spotlight. Apparently, this video is only "Part 1," so expect more details about Injustice 2's plot to surface before the game arrives on May 16, 2017.
In addition to the game itself, Injustice 2's story will unfold in a spin-off comic series illustrated by Bruno Redondo. Tom Taylor, who penned the first Injustice series, will write. The first volume of Injustice: Gods Among Us was surprisingly good, especially for a video game tie-in, and the follow-up looks like it'll continue the original's tradition of pushing DC's classic characters to their absolute limits, showing fans some of the very worst things that Batman and Superman are capable of.
