Is Valorant Ever Coming To PS5 Or Series X?
It's been nearly a year since "Valorant" hit the scene and took the PC world by storm. The ultra competitive first-person shooter takes elements of hero shooters like "Overwatch" and applies them to the lightning-fast gameplay of "CS:GO." The game has attracted Twitch streamers, professional players, and regular fans alike with its easy-to-learn, hard-to-master gameplay. The only downside to "Valorant" is that it remains exclusive to the PC platform, locking out console players from getting in on the fun.
"Valorant" doesn't have some type of exclusive deal, the way games normally get locked to PlayStation or Xbox platforms, but instead is made by Riot, which primarily makes PC-only titles. "League of Legends," the company's best-known title, has been out for years, not moving to other platforms until recently, and it's still not even out yet on consoles. So the big question is, will "Valorant" come to PS5 or Xbox Series X?
Riot has worked on it, but no official announcements
Riot has not announced "Valorant" for consoles in any official capacity, but the company has stated that it was working on prototypes at one point. In a June 8, 2020, interview with GameSpot, Anna Donlon, executive producer on "Valorant," said that Riot was prototyping console versions of the game but said they would only release them if the game translated to consoles well.
"If we feel like we can deliver this experience on those platforms, we absolutely will," Donlon told GameSpot. "But we really want Valorant to stand for a certain type of gameplay and a certain type of experience."
Felipe Romero, a principal engineer at Riot Games, told PlayStation Universe that the next-gen consoles could easily hit 120FPS with lowered resolutions and maybe at 4K resolution. This comment shows that Riot Games is at least toying around with the idea of console ports, but they haven't announced anything official yet.
