Is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge A Sequel?

Many adults still love "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," as these radical heroes took over everyone's childhood in the '80s and '90s. Not only did fans have the smash-hit cartoon, but there was a successful "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" movie trilogy, as well as toys, video games, and plenty of other merchandise. The franchise had such an impact that it continues to be highly popular today.

Of course, the Turtles still star in new movies, shows, and games, complete with exciting product lines to go along with them. And for gamers who are obsessed with "Turtle Power," there's an all-new video game in the works.

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge" is an upcoming beat 'em up that is delightfully reminiscent of classic arcade games from the series. In fact, it fits the style so well that it pretty much looks like a direct sequel to beloved titles like "Turtles in Time." After watching some gameplay footage, you may be convinced that it is a follow-up. So, that begs the question: is "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge" a sequel?

If you love Turtles in Time, you will likely love Shredder's Revenge

While the term "sequel" has not been used specifically by Dotemu, the game's developer, the team has described the game as an "homage to classic TMNT games like Turtles In Time."

But is the plot a direct continuation to any of the older titles? Does it involve time travel like "Turtles in Time?" There's no indication that "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge" is a follow-up in either sense. However, the game will transport you back to the '80s in a way, thanks to its spot-on retro design that perfectly mimics the cartoon.

The game was directly inspired by its older arcade siblings and could be considered more of a spiritual successor than a sequel, but at the end of the day, what matters is that this will scratch a nostalgic itch. If you're a fan of "Turtles in Time" or other classic beat 'em ups in the series, then "Shredder's Revenge" will in all likelihood be just what you've been waiting for.
