Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals - What We Know So Far
"Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals" has been confirmed, and Nintendo has released a trailer for the title. After five long years, the story that began in the critically-acclaimed supernatural thriller "Oxenfree" will continue.
Fans were obsessed with the first game, in which players explored a haunted island and investigated a series of rifts in time. Players could "tune into" the supernatural side of the game through a handheld radio that allowed the player to communicate with ghosts and solve puzzles. "Oxenfree" is one of the best games that can be completed in one sitting, which is probably why people continue to come back to it.
There's a lot of excitement for what "Oxenfree 2" could bring to the table. Fans are pumped to get some answers to the many mysteries that the first "Oxenfree" left unanswered. Many other fans are just as excited for another stellar soundtrack. "Oxenfree 2" has some big shoes to fill.
What is the release date for Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals?
The only information currently known about a release date for "Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals" is that it's coming in 2021. Nintendo announced the game at the April 14 Indie World Showcase, only flashing a 2021 at the end of the announcement trailer. "Oxenfree 2" will also be released on PC via the Steam store. The Steam page for the game doesn't clear up the release date questions, either, simply displaying "2021" as the release date.
The Nintendo.com page for "Oxenfree 2" likewise doesn't offer any more information on when in 2021 the game can be expected. The game hasn't even been rated yet, so it most likely isn't in a finished state, quite yet.
One thing to keep in mind is that the release could be pushed back — especially if the game isn't already finished — because of COVID-19, which has impacted gaming releases in the past. Not only have several games already been delayed in 2021, but Nintendo alluded to potential setbacks at the very beginning of the Indie World Showcase, as well.
Is there a trailer for Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals?
The announcement trailer from the Indie World Showcase is the only peek that fans have gotten into "Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals" so far. However, this is not your average, vague announcement trailer — it's actually pretty epic.
In the trailer, fans are immediately greeted by some seriously creepy scenes. Unlike the last "Oxenfree," whose trailer starts out a bit more light-hearted, "Oxenfree 2" is quick to show off the suspenseful side of the game. There weren't any scenes in the announcement trailer that looked light-hearted at all in the trailer.
The music in the trailer is just as daunting and suspenseful as the music from the first game, and it does an excellent job at putting viewers on the edge of their seat while creating excitement for the game at the same time.
The video on the game's Steam page is the same, so it might be the only video that fans will see before the game releases.
What is the story in Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals?
Despite only having one announcement trailer and no solid release date, the story of "Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals" is fairly easy to figure out. According to the Nintendo page for the game, players will still play as Riley, 5 years after the events of the original. That's pretty fitting, considering the fact that the second installment in the series is coming out 5 years after the first game.
In "Oxenfree 2," Riley ends up going back to Camena, her hometown, to check out some strange radio signals. Just like the first game, these signals lead to suspenseful encounters with creepy things around Camena. Judging from the fact that the game's Steam page describes it as an "exploration" game and the presence of a "Choose Your Own Adventure" tag, it's likely that "Oxenfree 2" will play very similarly to the original.
It remains to be seen if the new game will have an ending that's less confusing than the first one, but it sounds like players will have a good deal of control over how the story will progress.
