Assassin's Creed Valhalla Is Getting Another New Mode
Assassin's Creed Valhalla launched along with the PS5 late last year, but it's already getting more new features than you can shake a mace at. Assassin's Creed Valhalla earned critical praise for its expansive world and combat mechanics, but it continues to gift fans even months after its release. Recently, gamers deciphered some of the carefully crafted language included in the game. Now, Assassin's Creed Valhalla is getting a massive update that should keep fans interested in the game for a long time to come.
Ubisoft's 1.1.2 patch notes indicate some exciting changes to Assassin's Creed Valhalla, including an entirely new mode of play: River Raids. The notes described River Raids as a "highly replayable mode that will take you to unexplored regions of England, which is full of raiding opportunities." Significantly, River Raids mode allows players to journey to previously unexplored areas of the map in order to acquire new loot and expand the Raven Clan's reputation. It also helps players feel like the epic Vikings the game depicts in its advertisements, touring around England with a huge crew of burly combatants, ready to strike at any time. River Raids mode is available as part of the game's Yule Season, but there's no information in the patch notes indicating if it will stick around permanently or be a limited time event like the Yule Festival.
The patch also includes new abilities, including the Berserker Trap, which allows players to plant a hallucinatory trap to confuse enemies from a distance. Eivor also has a new battle cry that scares enemies and gives the player strength during battle. Lastly, Eivor can now shoulder bash their way through enemies, knocking them back in the process. Paired with new skills, like the option to automatically carry a body after a successful assassination, the patch should bring enough new flavor to the game to keep fans engaged in the world of the Vikings.
Of course, the update also fixes some glitches and improves various features throughout Assassin's Creed Valhalla, like lighting or graphics issues. It also adds vibration effects to fishing, describing the new effect in the notes as, "fishing goes BRRRR." In fact, many of the patch notes contain a bit of Assassin's Creed humor, referencing anomalies in the Animus. The notes even give a nod to the emergency meetings in Among Us when mentioning a glitch where NPCs can die before being hit.
Vikings the world over can begin enjoying River Raids mode in the latest Assassin's Creed Valhalla game update, available today on all platforms.
