These Are The 3 Hardest Bosses In RuneScape 3

RuneScape recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. One of the original MMORPGS — and a game of startling longevity — RuneScape now boasts over 1.1 million subscribers, according to Venture Beat. But how are those subscribers filling up their time?

A lot of players spend their time preparing for and kitting themselves out for boss fights. There are many challenging bosses both in and out of questlines. Some players have even noted that the bosses in RuneScape 3 feel impossible.

They're not, of course. But they often require preparation, strategy, and teamwork. RuneScape 3 is a game that includes a lot of detail and depth, and it takes a while for people to learn which tactics are going to work where, where to get the best items in the game, and when they might need help.

Let's take a look at the three hardest bosses in the biggest MMO of all-time — and the tactics frequently used to defeat them.

Telos: The Warden

Telos is considered to be one of the hardest bosses in RuneScape 3, if not the hardest. A creation of the Elder Gods, Telos has only one goal: to protect the heart. And even though Telos is known for being brutal and punishing, the battle is an enjoyable one. On Reddit, players have praised the mechanics, music, drops, and shifting tactics.

Before fighting Telos, a player needs to kill the generals within the Heart, collect four components, and create a sigil. The fight itself is a four or five stage affair, depending on whether Telos is encountered at 100% enrage. Players can only fight Telos alone, making it significantly harder. But if you can successfully fight and defeat Telos, you'll be rewarded with some high-level drops.

According to players on Reddit, part of the trick does have to do with when you fight Telos, because Telos scales. The goal is to fight Telos when he has lower enrage — then he can be a walk in the park compared to other late-stage bosses. When he has high enrage, however, he becomes a force to be reckoned with.

Solak: The Grove Guardian

Found in "The Lost Grove," Solak is one of the Guardians of Guthix. A creature looking much like a wooden golem, Solak's encounter difficulty scales from two players to seven players, making it possible for him to solo. Seven players can make it easier, but two players increase the chances that Solak will drop good loot.

According to the RuneScape Wiki, Players will have some aid from another companion, Merethiel, during the encounter. But it's still a challenging fight simply because Solak does so much damage. That being said, he doesn't have many immunities except for stun, so it's really a matter of whittling him down and avoiding the worst of his attacks.

For Solak, the strategy really is to out-DPS the boss, though the two-player mode requires you to be a little more defensive. Manage your food and your actions wisely, though, and it's not impossible.

Nex: The Angel of Death

If you're fighting something called the "Angel of Death," you're probably already aware that you're in for some heavy damage. Nex is located within the Ancient Prison, which can only be opened with a Frozen Key. (And it should be noted there's an easier version of Nex; the hard version is "Angel of Death.")

Fighting Nex is complex enough that there are entire strategy guides for just this encounter. It's recommended players complete the Ritual of the Mahjarrat and visit the Glacor Cave first; this gives them a five percent damage boost. Nex has four bodyguards: Fumus, Umbra, Cruor, and Glacies. She also has 200,000 health and normally uses ranged attacks.

While it's possible to fight the Angel of Death with fewer than seven players, it's usually done with larger groups. The cap on a fight with Nex: Angel of Death is 50, but this decreases the drop rate.

The Runescape Wiki calculates that fighting Nex is worth approximately 1,300,515 coins in unique drops.
