30% Of People Agree This Multiplayer Game Has The Most Toxic Fans
The rise of online gaming has been fruitful, to say the least. Gamers across the world have grouped up across the web thanks to services such as Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. And long before those network hubs came into existence, consoles such as the Sega Dreamcast and earlier PC models allowed gamers to play together in a competitive setting. First-person shooters, MMORPG's, and fighting games run the gamut of games that thrive online thanks to a strong community of top-tier players.
But the one element of online gaming that plagues those communities is the toxicity that exists within it. At one point or another, you or someone you know has entered a lobby with their mic turned on. The horrible things that come through one's headset after making their voice heard can paint an entire game's player base in a negative light.
SVG asked its readers which gaming fanbase they consider to the be most toxic of them all. And to the surprise of no one, most of the responses brought up some of the most-played third- and first-person shooters on the market.
The game that came up the most, however, is Epic Games' revered battle royale experience.
A lot of gamers think the Fortnite community is overly negative
With 31.72% of the vote, Fortnite ended up being the game that respondents pointed to the most in terms of having a toxic fanbase. For a game with the mega popularity it has, it comes as no surprise that a wealth of negativity is present within its community. The topic of toxicity within Fortnite comes up a lot. Reddit threads on the matter are a regularity, and a pro player by the name of Itemm actually left the game entirely due to rampant immaturity within the community.
A TwitLonger post from the former pro broke down his complaints in great detail. "Most in the community are either literally a kid or in maturity," he said. "Toxicity is viewed as funny in this scene and it just got to a point where I couldn't be bothered putting up with the immaturity and toxicity."
The other games that got a mention on SVG's survey are far from shocking when it comes to player toxicity. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (29.61%), Valorant & PUBG (9.39%), Counter-Strike: GO (9.22%), and Apex Legends (8.58%) also earned their fare share of the votes.
