Super Mario Run Introduction Video, Release Details Revealed
An introduction video for the Super Mario Run iOS game has debuted, along with more information about the infinite runner and its release date.
Nintendo fans can expect Super Mario Run to hit the App Store on December 15, 2016. The announcement and introduction video comes just a month ahead of the game's release, showing off some of the gameplay as well as the three modes that will be available. Players can take the pudgy plumber through the World Tour, Toad Rally, and Kingdom Builder modes after downloading the game for free. Though you don't have to buy anything, you'll have to pay $9.99 to unlock all of the content and get access past the basic offerings.
In World Tour, players can control Mario's jumps by tapping for short jumps and long-pressing for higher ones as he rolls through the various lands in the Mushroom Kingdom. According to the official site, you'll adventure through six worlds with 24 courses.
Toad Rally is a race against other players in which you compete for a high score, hoping to impress an audience of Toads. If you're awesome enough, you'll defeat your opponents and maybe even convince some of the Toads to live in your kingdom.
And the aforementioned kingdom can be crafted in the Kingdom Builder mode, where you can use coins you've collected in the Toad Rally to decorate your very own land, buildings and all. There's no word on whether or not these kingdoms will figure into something more than just a cute distraction, but we're looking forward to seeing it in action anyway.
Look forward to Super Mario Run's December 15 debut at the App Store for the iPhone and iPad. All of this mobile Nintendo goodness should tide us over until Nintendo releases more information about the new Switch console in January.
