The Cyberpunk 2077 Easter Egg Mortal Kombat Fans Shouldn't Miss
For those who were able to play Cyberpunk 2077 in spite of its glaring bugs and glitch issues, an Easter egg has cropped up that will delight fans of a classic fighter game. Though the game takes place in a dystopian future, Cyberpunk 2077 gives a nod to the past with the appearance of an iconic Mortal Kombat character.
When protagonist V meets Panam Palmer, a mercenary and possible romance option, she will introduce V to a character called Mitch. Speaking to Mitch will trigger a side quest called "I'll Fly Away," wherein Mitch asks V to help him pay tribute to a fallen friend. It just so happens that friend's name was Scorpion, and they left behind a souped-up ride painted black with yellow stripes. After fulfilling Scorpion's wishes to go out in a literal blaze of glory, Mitch will reward V with his old friend's "good luck charm" — a figurine that looks an awful lot like Scorpion of Mortal Kombat fame.
The statue features the Mortal Kombat Scorpion's iconic look, including the black and yellow motif, hood, mask, gauntlet, and two swords. It's possible that the Scorpion character in Cyberpunk 2077 was a fan, even going so far as to give himself the moniker of his favorite fighter. Perhaps the statue was an old collectible from a comic book store from days gone by? No one could say for certain, but the figure is a must-have for Mortal Kombat fans.
Cyberpunk 2077 features a number of other Easter eggs relating to games as well. Players can expect to find Vault 101 from Fallout, a reference to the train job from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Not only that, but a very familiar voice from Portal makes an appearance, and Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima has a cameo, too.
The makers of Cyberpunk 2077 have been in the hot seat since the game's release came with massive issues on last-gen consoles. Developers offered refunds to players for a small window of time in early December, but it wasn't enough to ease the minds of gamers who had been eagerly awaiting the game's release after multiple delays. CD Projekt Red recently announced that free DLC may be on the horizon for loyal players, but only time will tell if patches will fix the problems at hand, or if Cyberpunk 2077 will be able to earn back the trust of its fans. In the meantime, players have plenty of fun secrets to find.
