The Fighting Video Game That Features A Bizarre Daytona USA Crossover
Fighting games have gone above and beyond when it comes to featuring guest roster members.
Capcom's entire lineup of crossover fighters have pitted the Japanese publisher's most popular characters against Marvel Comics and even Tatsunoku Production's finest. Tekken 7 notably featured Akuma from Street Fighter 2, Geese Howard from Fatal Fury, Noctis Lucis Caelum from Final Fantasy 15, and even Negan from The Walking Dead.
Mortal Kombat has regularly reached outside the world of gaming to expand its growing roster. Mortal Kombat X let players act out their dream Alien vs. Predator battles, while Mortal Kombat 11 threw action movie icons in the form of The Terminator, RoboCop, and Rambo into its gore-filled arena.
Back in 1996, a 3D crossover fighter by the name of Fighters Megamix combined the rosters of Virtua Fighter and Fighting Vipers. It also included a few guests from other Sega IP's to boot. There's one guest character in particular that's the weirdest one of them all, however. And what's even crazier is the fact that this strange guest fighter is pretty much just a car.

Fighters Megamix's roster features several hidden characters.
The method towards unlocking them meant players had to complete the game's single-player mode courses. Fighters Megamix's more cartoonish characters were lifted from Sonic the Fighters, such as Bark the Polar Bear and Bean the Dynamite. Some of the game's other surprising guests included Janet Marshall from Virtua Cop 2, the super deformed versions of Akira & Sarah from Virtua Fighter Kids, and the main protagonist from Rent-A-Hero.
The most shocking guest character of them all from Fighter's Megamix has to be the famous red Hornet car from Daytona USA. The automobile is capable of fending off its foes by using its front and back wheels to land basic punches and kicks, and its battle cries are practically the same sound effects used for the vehicle's engine in the racer it originated from. The Hornet even comes with its own stage in the form of the Three-Seven Speedway track from Daytona USA.
The sight of a car standing upright to KO an enormous bear with a hat on its head is far from unusual for Fighters Megamix fans.
