Persona 5 Strikers - What We Know So Far
Persona 5 Strikers is an upcoming hack and slash title that combines the fast-paced action gameplay found in Koei Tecmo's Dynasty Warriors with the aesthetic and cast of Atlus' hit RPG, Persona 5. The game was first unveiled as Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers in 2019, and was released in Feb. 2020 exclusively in Japan. More recently, however, a worldwide release of the game was announced by Atlus in Dec 2020. The title was changed to Persona 5 Strikers, and it's shaping up to be everything gamers would expect from a crossover musou title.
Fans of Persona 5 have been waiting on Persona 5 Strikers for quite some time. Thankfully with this recent announcement, Persona 5 fans all over the world can rest easy knowing they'll be able to take on hordes of enemies as their favorite characters from the game. So if you're ready to steal some more hearts, here's everything you need to know about Persona 5 Strikers.
When is the release date for Persona 5 Strikers?
Persona 5 Strikers is currently set to release on Feb. 23, 2021. This release date was revealed in the Dec. 2020 trailer for the title. However, that particular wasn't uploaded by Atlus' YouTube account, making some to believe that the footage was meant to be shown at a later date. Regardless, Atlus did drop the trailer on their official YouTube account a few days later, solidifying that a Feb. 2021 worldwide release was happening.
Considering that the game has already made its debut in Japan, and Atlus and Koei Tecmo aren't building from scratch, this release date is very promising. If you're a fan that's been waiting for the title since 2018, then you'll be happy to know that it's almost here. But if you're really excited about the game, you can actually pre-order it right now through the Persona 5 Strikers official website. Additionally, you can select which edition of the game you'd like to own while making your purchase.
Does Persona 5 Strikers have a trailer?
The most recent trailer for Persona 5 Strikers was released Dec. 2020 by Atlus. The footage opened up with an exciting action sequence featuring all the members of the Phantom Thieves as they pummeled groups of villainous Shadows. Each character had a chance to shine in the trailer as they summoned their Personas to deal some flashy and devastating damage to their enemies.
The trailer also showed off new characters and villains, as large armies of Shadows run rampant throughout Japan. The game's official website offers more details about the story, stating that this entry takes place after Persona 5, during the group's summer vacation. Their days of relaxation are cut short when a Kyoto detective forces the Phantom Thieves to help investigate a series of strange occurrences happening across the country. If the Phantom Thieves refuse to help, the detective will arrest Joker, the leader of the Phantom Thieves. With no choice but to comply, the Phantom Thieves are forced to make a return to help save Japan again.
What is the gameplay like in Persona 5 Strikers?
Similar to other musou crossover titles like Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity and Fire Emblem Warriors, Persona 5 Strikers will allow the player to single-handedly smash through large groups of enemies as they complete specific objectives to secure a victory. In the past, Koei Tecmo would use game mechanics or characters from the IP it was partnering with as a way to create a fresh variation of its Dynasty Warrior series. Based on the trailer for Persona 5 Strikers, it's looking very likely that both Atlus and Koei Tecmo will be sticking to that formula, with a few added bells and whistles.
What's great about the title already being out in Japan is that there is a ton of information already available. According to reports, mechanics from Persona 5 such as switching between Personas, All-Out Attacks, and other battle mechanics will make a comeback in this title. Based on footage from the Japanese release of the game, Persona 5 Strikers will also be making use of a "BAND" system, which allows the playable characters to level up and learn new skills to aid them in battle.
Which platforms will Persona 5 Strikers be available on?
Persona 5 Strikers will be made available for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. While there is no word yet as to whether or not Atlus will launch a PlayStation 5 version of the game, this one of Atlus' most accessible launches yet.
A PC version of the game is one of the main highlights here. In the past, many games from Atlus remained exclusively on consoles. But after porting over Catherine in 2019 and Persona 4 Golden to Steam in 2020, it's looking like the company is easing up on making its titles console exclusive. So in the case of Persona 5 Strikers, fans probably know that it's really incredible that Atlus is launching a PC version alongside console releases.
The Nintendo Switch version of the game is also something for fans to get excited about. Players will be able to crush hundreds of Shadows on the go.
