One Of The Nintendo Wii U's Rarest Games Probably Isn't What You'd Expect
The Wii U may be long gone, but many of its titles have found new life in the form Nintendo Switch ports. One game that has gotten this treatment is Hello Kitty Kruisers, a multiplayer racing game starring adorable Sanrio characters like My Melody, Badtz-Maru, and of course, Kitty herself. Hello Kitty Kruisers was originally an iOS game that got a Wii U release in 2014 and was eventually ported over to Switch in 2018.
Despite the game getting a second chance at life on the Switch, the original Wii U release is the more sought-after of the two. The Wii U title has remained elusive for several years and has become a collector's item that Sanrio fans and gamers alike are willing to shell out lots of money for. The game itself wasn't really received well, so it isn't exactly known for its great game design. So what is it about Hello Kitty Kruisers that has everyone so hyped about it?
Hello Kitty Kruisers had a low supply and a high demand
When Hello Kitty Kruisers was released in 2014, very few copies made it outside of Japan. Since there was a limited supply, those who managed to get their hands on the game started to sell copies at expensive prices. Back during the Wii U era, copies of this game used to sell for over $200.
Currently, it seems that the prices have dropped with the release of the Switch port. A quick search on eBay shows most Wii U copies of Hello Kitty Kruisers selling below $100, with the exception of one auction that has the game set at $780.
The Switch port of Hello Kitty Kruisers doesn't sell for nearly the same amount as its Wii U counterpart. Unlike other ports of the Wii U games that added content such as Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition and Pikmin 3 Deluxe, this game is more or less the same as its 2014 Wii U release. The rarity of Hello Kitty Kruisers may have dropped because of this Switch port, but that won't stop collectors from trying to get their hands on the Wii U version of the game.
