PlayStation Tweet All But Confirms The Next Fortnite Character
Fortnite: Chapter 2 – Season 5 is well under way, and this time, the battle royale game is bringing in a few new friends. This season's plot revolves around Agent Jonesy recruiting hunters, heroes, and everyone in between, and the battle pass is already turning heads with the title character from The Mandalorian. However, Epic Games promised more characters will join the fight as the season continues, and Sony might have revealed the next star player.
Several hours after the new season started, the PlayStation Twitter account posted a not-so-cryptic audio log of Agent Jonesy bemoaning the follies of researching potential battle royale candidates before recruiting them. Apparently, some backstories are better left undisturbed, especially when the next Fortnite character on Jonesy's list "literally vanquished multiple gods ... with his bare hands ... in a fit of uncontrollable rage." Few fictional characters have ever successfully waged a campaign of godly regicide, but one such person is an actual PlayStation mascot. Given what fans know so far, the general consensus is that God of War's Kratos is coming to Fortnite.
Normally, this tweet would be far from conclusive. After all, Asura from Asura's Wrath has the same M.O. of using rage to slaughter pantheons of deities. However, noted leaker Hypex posted an unreleased teaser image of Kratos, recreated in Fortnite's cartoonish aesthetic. Assuming the image is legit, the Ghost of Sparta is all but confirmed as Fortnite's next character. With any luck, he will come with a Leviathan Axe pickaxe skin.
If the Twitter post and Hypex's leak can be taken at face value, then it is also safe to assume the Kratos skin will be exclusive to PlayStation owners, since the character has never ventured beyond the confines of the PlayStation consoles. More importantly, Kratos' inclusion could open the floodgate for more platform mascot skins. Fortnite is no stranger to guest characters, as demonstrated by the game's John Wick and Borderlands Psycho skins, but Kratos would mark the first time a console-exclusive character set foot in the battle royale. In the spirit of fairness, Epic Games could create skins based on other iconic characters for their respective platforms.
Actually, scratch that — Epic Games might have already done that, since recent leaks have unearthed purported Halo-themed skins. Now all we need is a skin of Metroid's Samus Aran for the Switch version.
Fans probably won't need to wait long before Epic Games confirms or denies these leaks. Until then, keep your fingers crossed. The world needs more Fortnite matches featuring Kratos wielding a shotgun.
