Games That Run Better On PS5 Than Xbox
When comparing the PS5 and the Xbox Series X, they are actually pretty similar as far as specs go. Both consoles have 16 GB of RAM, run up to 8k resolution, have a frame rate of up to 120 fps, and each have a 4K UHD Blu-Ray disc drive — not to mention they both clock in at $500. The Xbox Series X wins out on storage and GPU, but, sometimes games just look and feel better on one console over another, as could be seen in previous console generations. After all, this was the case with the Xbox One X, which featured "more stable frame rates and better anisotropic filtering" when compared to the PS4 Pro.
But what about the PS5 vs. the Xbox Series X? Which games just perform better on a PlayStation platform? If you haven't chosen a console yet, would having any of these games influence your choice? Here are three games that beat out the Xbox Series X with superior performance and visuals on the PS5.
Assassin's Creed: Valhalla
Apparently, the critics feel that Assassin's Creed: Valhalla performs better on the PS5. In a Eurogamer review, it's stated that both the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game suffer from occasional screen tearing. This happens when "the engine is under heavy load and can't render a new frame within the 16.7ms target, [so] it'll present the new frame when it's good and ready, while your screen is updating." However, as the review states, "the PlayStation 5 is much closer to the 60fps target more of the time, while Xbox Series X can struggle." Valhalla is targeted for 60fps, leaving some headroom on both consoles' 120fps limit.
Including the screen tearing, there are some other bugs on the Xbox platform: stuttering in the camera motion which happens when it "doesn't update with a linear relationship to frame-rate during cutscenes" even with the engine at 60fps, NPCs rotating weirdly, axe hits not registering, and Viking troops freezing on the boat during the first raid. According to Eurogamer, the PS5 version doesn't have these issues.
Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War
The great thing about Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War on the PS5 is using the DualSense controller. According to PushSquare, every gun feels different through the controller: "assault rifles [are] relatively easy on the trigger while LMGs genuinely feel heavy in your hands. It takes actual effort to bring up the sightlines of an RPD and even more work to start firing rounds. Sniper rifles give a quick jolt of vibration as their bolt action nature is called into effect while SMGs feel light to the touch."
If you want a new level of immersive first-person shooter, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War seems to be more worth it on the PS5 with DualSense. It's also the "best looking" Call of Duty on console to date. Not only that, but there are newer reports suggesting that the Xbox version of the game may actually be killing Series X consoles.
Dirt 5
Dirt 5 is another game that uses the DualSense controller to its advantage; according to PushSquare, the accelerator and break become "easier or harder to press depending on race conditions." Dirt 5 is an arcade-style off-road racing game developed by Codemasters. The graphics are crystal clear, the colors bright, and the load times practically non-existent. Dirt 5 utilizes the PS5's 3D audio well, using "positional audio to make music play from in-game speakers located around the sides of each track," per PushSquare.
Dirt 5 also employs stunning weather and lighting effects to give players an immersive racing experience. According to IGN's review, Dirt 5 casts off "all semblance of simulation in favour of an unabashed, arcade-inspired racing experience that draws from just about every influence you can name except its direct predecessor." In terms of performance on the PS5 versus the Xbox Series X, PushSquare noted that the PS5 has "higher average resolution and improved texture filtering," as well as "a significant increase in overall detail at 120fps." While it's a solid racing game no matter how you slice it, Dirt 5 apparently looks better on the PS5.
