Amazon May Have Leaked A Possible Red Dead Redemption Remaster
Although Rockstar Games fans have been busy playing Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online, Red Dead Redemption has been the focus of multiple rumors regarding a potential remake or remaster. The latest comes in the form of an Amazon listing found by a Reddit user who reported it in the official Red Dead Redemption subreddit.
Reddit user CZ_835 posted a screenshot of the listing on Amazon, ostensibly titled Red Dead Redemption Remastered. The listing in the screenshot for the potential remaster is the Xbox One version and is priced at $49.94. Further, it says the release date is Dec. 10, 2020, which would mean that the remaster would be just around the corner for Red Dead Redemption fans and would coincide with The Game Awards 2020.
Some Reddit users contested the leak in the post. User RockOnSnow pointed out that the link has appeared on the subreddit before. Further, typing in "Red Dead Redemption Remastered" in Google currently only brings up listings for various versions of the original Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2.
At the very least, the leak should be taken with a grain of salt. There have been previous rumors suggesting the existence of a Red Dead Redemption remaster, including a 4chan post in June that detailed a 2021 release. This rumor indicated that the Red Dead Redemption rerelease would be more akin to a full-on remake with Red Dead Redemption 2-style graphics and enhanced gameplay in the style of its sequel.
Rumors of the remaster treatment for Red Dead Redemption go back even further, however. In 2019, a similar rumor was described on Reddit by a user who claimed that there would indeed be a Red Dead Redemption remaster in addition to alien-themed DLC for Red Dead Redemption 2. The user followed up on the rumor by labeling it an "experiment" and apologized for misleading gamers on the existence of a Red Dead Redemption remake.
The first Red Dead Redemption is certainly beloved by many gamers, and a vast number of them would likely be open to the idea of a full-on remake or remaster for new consoles. In the meantime, Red Dead Redemption 2 is compatible on PS5 and Xbox Series X, so avid Red Dead Redemption 2 players can officially make that transition if they have a copy of the game on PS4 or Xbox One. The backwards compatibility factor enables faster load times, as well as enhanced presentation.
