The Worst And Best Mortal Kombat Guest Character Of All Time

The otherworldly realm of Mortal Kombat has opened portals to other universes within the entertainment spectrum since its 2011 revival. The fighting game franchise's wealth of elemental ninjas, massive beasts, military grunts, and lady assassins have been joined by a pretty far-out roster of additions from other video games, films, and comic books. Ed Boon and the uber-talented development team at NetherRealm Studios have done a bang-up job of adding a sense of extra hype to MK's gore-filled battles with shocking guest character choices.

So far, the guest characters that have indulged in dishing out Fatalities of their own include Kratos from God of War, Freddy Krueger from Nightmare on Elm Street, Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th, the Predator, Leatherface from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, the Alien, the Joker, Spawn, the Terminator, RoboCop, and John Rambo. While a good majority of those outside influences have added to the world of Mortal Kombat in a positive manner, some of them have, sadly, come up short in the fun department. There's definitely one guest character that stands out above the rest as the very best, while another guest character sits at the bottom of the barrel as far as Mortal Kombat is concerned.

Image Comics' most famous antihero is MK's best guest character

One of the most highly requested guest characters for Mortal Kombat X ended up being Image Comics' most popular character, the antihero known as Spawn. During an interview with IGN, Ed Boon brought up that fact and noted that Todd McFarlane of Image Comics fame wanted Spawn in the game as well. Once the first Kombat Pack for Mortal Kombat 11 was unveiled, fans finally got their wish granted when Spawn popped up on the screen during the reveal trailer.

Spawn has been represented in amazing fashion via his inclusion in MK 11. The game's extensive character customization system has given him a vast array of iconic costumes and newly created ones to change into. As far as his moveset goes, everything that makes Spawn such an overwhelming threat is spread out among his offensive arsenal. Spawn can shoot down his foes with a machine gun, bash them in the head with a war club, and grab them from afar with his demonic chains. That's not all, though: Spawn can tap into his hellspawn powers to send out necro blasts, use his long cape to catch opponents off guard with different attacks, and even go invisible for a few seconds.

As far as his Fatalities and Brutalities go, they look great in execution and present him as a natural fit for MK 11. It may have taken forever for Spawn to pop up in another fighting game besides Soulcalibur 2, but the long wait was well worth it.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre's horror icon is simply a bore in Mortal Kombat X

While Leatherface gets plenty of credit for being a celebrated horror movie icon, his guest spot in Mortal Kombat X wasn't much to get all that excited about.

It's pretty disheartening to see how he turned out when compared to how great Freddy Krueger and Jason Vorhees ended up being. Freddy's claw-based abilities are pretty fun to utilize, while Jason's machete strikes and revival mechanic showcased him as a worthy addition to Mortal Kombat X. As for the main baddie from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Leatherface's gameplay in MKX proved to be a bit too dry to stay invested in. His moveset mainly consists of him swinging his chainsaw wildly and even throwing it across the battlefield as a projectile. Those maneuvers prove to be satisfyingly violent, but they also come off as dull and uninspired when compared to MKX's other guest combatants.

The horror movie contingent in the Mortal Kombat games has produced some of the coolest guest characters in the entire series. Leatherface's awesome factor simply isn't as high as his rivals, however.
