The One Small PS5 Detail Nobody Noticed
The design of the new PlayStation 5 has been dividing gamers since its June 11 reveal. But for those who aren't sold on the upcoming console's sleek look and black-and-white contrast, eagle-eyed observers have found a neat little detail that might just change your mind.
Although who gets full credit for first examining the PlayStation 5 closely enough to discover this intriguing design extra remains unclear, social media posts about the discovery started surfacing early on June 13. One spotter was a user on ResetEra, brokenswiftie, who shared images of the console zoomed in enough to reveal it. Another was Twitter user @ps5only, who credited the find to another user, @qlieure.
It's definitely not something you'd notice right away even if you were looking at the console itself, so the fact that someone was able to check it out on the images — well, mind blown!
And once you figure it out, you're going to be zooming in on all the images of PlayStation 5. And not just the console, but the peripherals as well. The design detail you missed happens to be evident on the DualSense controller, the camera, and the headset too. It's pretty cool, honestly.
The bumps on the PS5's textured surface aren't random
It turns out that the tiny bumps on the PlayStation's textured area aren't just randomly placed lumpy bits. If you look closely, they are actually made up of Xs, Os, squares, and triangles. You may recognize these symbols as having long been featured on PlayStation controllers and logos.
"When you see this thing in person, there are a lot of nice, surprising features ... it's gorgeous, it's just a marvel. I think people are going to love having [it] in their home, it's something they'll want to show off," Eric Lempel, PlayStation's Head of Global Marketing and Consumer Experience, said in a June 12 interview for the PlayStation Blog.
Could this have been one of the features he was speaking of? It might also be why Sony seemed to put so much focus on the symbols and on the interior faces of the console during the reveal video.
Of course, this might not be the end design for the standard console being marketed to consumers, and Sony has confirmed nothing. Still, this little Easter egg shows an impressive level of detail which, if it applies to all Sony's endeavors surrounding the PlayStation 5, bodes well for the console come Holiday 2020.
