This New Rocket League Arena Is Downright Gorgeous
Rocket League, like most live service games, offers up a healthy amount of special event content throughout the year. The game's latest update — one that celebrates the Lunar New Year — may be one of the prettiest we've seen, however.
Lucky Lanterns will shower players in all sorts of appropriately themed loot, including new paint jobs, car toppers, boost trails, and goal explosions (the dragon one looks particularly cool). But no addition may be as jaw-dropping to look at as the arena Rocket League is adding for the event. Dubbed "Forbidden Temple," this new pitch features a whole lot of Far East influence, including Chinese architecture and more stunning scenery from the region off in the distance.
It almost makes us a little sad we'll be speeding around the field at unbelievable speeds. It sure looks like a lot of work went into building this arena, and we'd at least like to take a moment and appreciate it.
In any case, it appears Rocket League will have plenty for players to do in the days ahead. Not that anyone was worried about Rocket League continuing to receive more content, mind you. But those who've been giving Epic Games a hard time about taking the holidays off on Fortnite can at least rest easy knowing the team at Psyonix is still clocking in.
What you will have to keep in mind, though, is that Rocket League has transitioned away from loot crates. On one hand, that's great — you can simply purchase what you want. On the other hand, though, don't expect to get lucky and nab one of the awesome new items in Lucky Lanterns. Now that the crates are gone, you'll have to make your own luck by paying a premium for the really cool cosmetics.
Lucky Lanterns is scheduled to run from Jan. 20 through Feb. 10. If you like what you see in the trailer above, you'll be able to get your hands on some of those new goodies in just a few days.
