Two Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! Players Pull Off The Ultimate Stunt
If you're as terrible at Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! as most people are, you'll either stare with longing or seethe with jealousy at what took place during Games Done Quick this year.
Punch-Out!! is as much a puzzle game as it is a boxing game, and while the patterns of its various opponents can be frustrating for some, they also allow for players to learn fights intricately in order to get the upper hand. You might think beating Punch-Out!! wearing a blindfold sounds impossible, but people have done it. Two blindfolded people sharing one controller, though? We're not sure that's ever happened.
Until now, anyway.
Take a look at this video and marvel as two players — Sinister1 and Zallard1 — successfully complete a blindfolded, shared-controller run through every single challenger in Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!
The playthrough went about as perfect as it could go. The two made quick work of every single fighter in the game, using dodges and ducks as "buffers" to both avoid punches and throw them. The two also used the game's audio to their advantage, listening for movement and the oh-so-satisfying jingle that plays when an uppercut star is earned. From there, it was all about memorization — remembering not just who the two were fighting, but how that particular opponent attacks.
Even Mike Tyson didn't put up much of a fight. And the best part? This amazing stunt was accomplished in front of a room full of screaming fans, all of whom were there in the name of charity.
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! is a favorite game of speedrunners. It's also a go-to title for those who want to take on a classic in a unique and interesting way. We're pretty sure we haven't seen the last of Nintendo's arcade boxer at Games Done Quick (or anywhere else, for that matter). But we have to say, at this point in time, this run by Sinister1 and Zallard1 might be one of the most impressive we've ever seen. Hats off.
