PlayerUnknown's Prologue Isn't What You Think It Is
The 2019 Game Awards were so jammed-packed with reveal trailers that gamers have taken to calling it E3 2.0. It's understandable, then, if you didn't notice a trailer from the mind behind PUBG, given the Xbox Series X reveal and Mortal Kombat's made-over Joker.
In a blink-and-you'll-miss-it trailer, Brenden "PlayerUnknown" Greene announced that he has a new project in the works. It's called Prologue, and it is downright mysterious.
Before you get too excited, let us dash your dreams: Prologue is not a prequel or even a sequel to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. In an interview with Forbes, Greene emphasized that this wasn't the case, going on to say that Prologue isn't even a shooter. It turns out that Prologue is wholly different from anything Greene has previously produced. A brave new world, if you will. That said, what is Prologue?
We're not really sure. All the information we have right now about the game is from the aforementioned interview with Greene and the short, but sweet trailer. The trailer doesn't really show gameplay, per se. In a stormy forest, a character pants, apparently winded and afraid. Through the thunder and the wind we hear a dog bark. Panicked, the character turns... and the trailer ends. That's all there was.
This short sneak peek featured gorgeous, intensely realistic graphics. And its end prompted prospective players to visit playprologue.com, which hosts the trailer and the following description: "Prologue is an exploration of new technologies and gameplay. Our aim with this game is to give players unique and memorable experiences, each and every time they play." Okay, that's fairly vague. What does Greene have to say about his new project?
"We set up the studio, and founded it with the goal of experimenting with new technology," Greene told Forbes. "Now we're taking that first step towards building new technologies, and Prologue is the first step into the new world for us. I wanted the chance to deliver something new on a global scale."
Again, this doesn't exactly explain what the game is all about. Green does mention, however, that it's his dream to create a massive world big enough to host thousands of players. Prologue is perhaps the first step toward building that giant space.
Whatever Prologue is, we'll keep you posted should we hear more about it.
