What The Cast Of Marvel Rivals Looks Like In Real Life
"Marvel Rivals" has taken the world by storm, introducing a hero shooter that finally rivals the popularity of industry juggernauts like "Overwatch 2." Although fans have found the gameplay to be incredibly addicting and fun, setting it in the Marvel universe has brought even more attention to it. The game's massive roster is full of memorable characters and deep cuts from the comics, and their unique designs have already created a passionate following.
Making "Marvel Rivals" stand out even more is its incredible cast of actors, which is made up of Marvel voice-acting veterans and fresh faces alike. Here's why your fellow Avengers and villains sound so familiar, as well as what they look like in real life.
Sally Amaki - Peni Parker
Peni Parker is a mech-driving Spider-hero from another reality, and Sally Amaki voices the character in both the English and Japanese dubs for the game. Over the course of her voice acting career, Sally Amaki has worked on series like "Bochi the Rock" (as Eliza Shimizu) and "Kaguya-sama: Love Is War" (as Betsy Beltoise). Amaki also isn't a stranger to the hero shooter genre of video games — she also plays Kiriko in "Overwatch 2."
Being in both "Marvel Rivals" and "Overwatch 2" has naturally invited comparisons between her two characters from hero shooter fans, with some preferring Peni over Amaki's "Overwatch 2" character. It seems the team behind "Marvel Rivals" is also a fan of Amaki's performance, as the game's official X account posted, "[Sally's} voice is as vibrant and lively as her mech!" Outside of voice acting, Amaki is well-known as a member of the idol girl group 22/7, who also received their own anime series.
Troy Baker - Loki
Troy Baker, of course, is a name that many gamers know. He's an extremely prevalent voice actor, lending his talents to massive video game characters and franchises including Joel in "The Last of Us," Sam Drake in "Uncharted 4," and Indiana Jones in "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle." Baker has also spent a good amount of time in the superhero genre, playing both Marvel and DC characters such as Batman, the Joker, Hawkeye, and — in "Marvel Rivals" — the trickster god known as Loki.
Baker has played Loki in several different projects since 2010, with "Marvel Rivals" marking the fifth time he's voiced the role in a video game. For many fans, Troy Baker has become the definitive animated version of the character, much like the MCU's Tom Hiddleston owns the character in live-action.
Milana Vayntrub - Squirrel Girl
Though many TV viewers no doubt recognize Milana Vayntrub as Lily, the AT&T commercial spokesperson, she's also been connected to Marvel's Squirrel Girl for quite some time. Vayntrub was at one point cast in the live-action role of Squirrel Girl for an MCU television series, "New Warriors." However, the show was cancelled before the pilot was ever officially aired, leaving Squirrel Girl out of action for a while. Fans reacted positively to leaked photos of Vayntrub in the Squirrel Girl costume, however, and Vayntrub has since returned to the role multiple times, including the audio series "Marvel's Squirrel Girl: The Unbeatable Radio Show!" and the animated series "Marvel Rising."
Vayntrub has developed an attachment to Squirrel Girl over the years, often sharing how connected she feels to the hero in various interviews. "Marvel Rivals," allows the actress to continue her ownership of the hero, even if it isn't the live-action take she had originally envisioned. Outside of "Marvel Rivals," gamers will be excited to know she also lent her voice to "God of War Ragnarok" (as Lúnda) and appeared in the critically acclaimed video game adaptation "Werewolves Within."
Steve Blum - Wolverine & Venom
Playing both Wolverine and Venom in "Marvel Rivals," we have anime and video game voiceover legend Steve Blum. With an anime resume including the ever-iconic role of Spike Spiegel in "Cowboy Bebop" and video game credits such as Brimstone in "Valorant" and Killer Croc in the "Batman: Arkham" series, Steve Blum is a prominent figure in nerd culture. With that in mind, it may not surprise you to learn that he's voiced both Wolverine and Venom in the past.
Steve Blum began voicing Wolverine over two decades ago in "X-Men Legends" and has since reprised the role in several video games and animated projects. At this point, many fans and fellow voice actors consider Blum to be the definitive Wolverine voice actor. In contrast, "Marvel Rivals" marks only the third time that Blum has played Venom, with his last performance as Eddie Brock being in "Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3." Fans have also responded positively to Blum's take on Venom, with some feeling that he's channeling a sinister energy similar to his time as Baraka in "Mortal Kombat."
Abby Trott - Magik
Voicing Ilyana Rasputin, a.k.a. Magik, is Abby Trott, another prolific video game and anime voice actor. Abby Trott has worked on countless shows, including the English dubs for massive hits like "Hunter x Hunter" and "Dandadan." Gamers may also be familiar with Trott's singing voice, as she recorded the main theme for the English language release of Nintendo's "Super Smash Bros. Ultimate."
"Marvel Rivals" isn't Trott's first gig involving Marvel's mutants, either: In 2024, she voiced another sword-wielding Marvel character, appearing as Spiral in the critically acclaimed "X-Men '97." Trott seems to be a big fan of her "Rivals" character (and her demonic side) as well, expressing considerable excitement for the opportunity to voice the character on her Instagram. "Such a cool character, and such an honor to be part of this phenomenal cast!" the voice actress posted, "Behold the power of DARKCHYLDE."
Mara Junot - Storm
Another veteran of the realm of Marvel video games, Mara Junot provides her voice for the mutant Storm in "Marvel Rivals." Fans may recognize Junot's voice from hit video game adaptations "Arcane" and "Pokemon Horizons," as well as games like "League of Legends" and "World of Warcraft." Junot previously played the character in "Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order" and "Marvel's Midnight Suns." In the latter, Storm took the spotlight in the appropriately named "Blood Storm" DLC.
Junot may have only voiced Storm a handful of times, but fans have completely fallen in love with her take on the character, especially in "Marvel Rivals." Fans are overall impressed with the range she's shown throughout her acting career. "Can't believe this is the voice of Evelynn [from 'League of Legends']," one fan commented on Reddit.
Travis Willingham - Thor and Doctor Doom
Another icon of fandom culture, Travis Willingham isn't limited to just one character: He voices both Thor and Doctor Doom in "Marvel Rivals." Outside of his prolific voice-acting career, many fans of "Dungeons & Dragons" are familiar with Willingham through his work as a cast member of the popular "D&D" podcast, "Critical Role" (and its animated adaptation, "The Legend of Vox Machina").
Though this is Willingham's first turn as Doom, he's played "Thor" many, many times in both animation and video games. Interestingly enough, Willingham also dipped into the MCU's live-action "Thor" franchise by portraying some of the 2011 film's Frost Giants via mocap and voiceover work. Despite his close association to the character, it took a while for Willingham to completely connect with the God of Thunder. "It's funny, Thor was really one of the least relatable characters to me," Willingham explained in an interview with Nerdist. "Thor, as I've been able to play him more, is far more vulnerable ... and interesting than I initially thought." Now, Thor's a character Willingham is happy to return to again and again.
Laura Bailey - Black Widow
Playing Black Widow, we have voice acting superstar Laura Bailey, another member of the "Critical Role" crew and the real-life partner to Travis Willingham (a.k.a. Thor). Bailey may have one of the most recognizable voices in the industry, having won awards for her performances in "The Last of Us Part 2" (as Abby) "Marvel's Spider-Man" (as Mary Jane), and several other games and anime. In addition to "Marvel Rivals," Laura Bailey has also voiced Black Widow in several Marvel projects over the years.
Laura Bailey has often discussed her fondness of the Marvel Universe and its characters, telling Red Carpet Report that she sees a lot of similarities between herself and Black Widow: "We both kick a lot of butt. I don't know if there are any differences [between us]." Many fans would agree, especially now that Bailey has played the character for so long.
James C. Mathis III - Black Panther
James C. Mathis III's resume is full of high-profile games such as "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater" and popular anime including "Beastars," but his involvement with the Marvel Universe encompasses many years and tons of fan-favorite characters. Mathis has contributed greatly to the realm of Marvel voice acting, providing the voices of T'Challa/Black Panther, War Machine, Luke Cage, Ronan the Accuser, and others in various media.
Not only does he voice Black Panther in "Marvel Rivals," many fans consider Mathis to be the definitive voice actor for the character, having played the role since 2010 in "The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes." Some fans were even disappointed when fellow voice actor Christopher Judge was cast as Black Panther in 2020's "Marvel's Avengers" instead of James C. Mathis III. Luckily for those diehard fans, Mathis has played the role several times since.
As for why he's returned to the role so often, Mathis explained in an interview with Marvel that T'Challa's sense of honor makes the character feel compelling to play: "The thing that stands out most to me about T'Challa is how honorable he is. I think he is more often than not going to err on the side of what's right."
Judy Alice Lee - Luna Snow
Voicing Luna Snow, we have video game voice actress Judy Alice Lee. Luna Snow is a relative newcomer to Marvel, with the super-powered K-Pop star originating in the 2018 game "Marvel Future Fight." From there, the character made her comic book debut in 2019, officially joining the ranks of all the other Marvel superheroes on the newstands. Judy Alice Lee also quick made a name for herself in the gaming industry, booking appearances in multiple "Call of Duty" games, "Octopath Traveler 2," and "Genshin Impact." Although the character of Luna Snow hasn't been around nearly as long as many of the game's other characters, she's very quickly gained a cult following, and fans believe that Lee has captured the essence of the character well.
Lee appears to be extremely grateful for the chance to put her stamp on this character and her world. "Thank you for the chance to fulfill the longstanding dream of mine to join the Marvel Universe," the actress posted on Instagram. "I can't imagine a better way for me to be able to extend my spirit and my voice to it."
Yuri Lowenthal - Spider-Man
For many, Yuri Lowenthal is the most obvious choice to voice Spider-Man in "Marvel Rivals." Having already voiced major characters like Sasuke from "Naruto," Ben Tennyson from "Ben 10," and Simon from "Gurren Lagann," Lowenthal has a distinct voice that is instantly recognizable to nerds of all kinds. Most notably in recent years, Lowenthal has provided the voice of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the "Marvel's Spider-Man" series from Insomniac.
Lowenthal is the latest in a long line of celebrated Spidey voice actors, but his participation in the critically acclaimed PlayStation games and "Marvel Rivals" has led many Marvel fans to think of his voice first. "Pretty sure he's the definitive voice of Spider-Man," writes one fan, showing how much love the voice actor has in the community. Some fans have even taken to calling him "the Kevin Conroy of Spider-Man," comparing him to Batman's most famous and beloved voice performer.
Josh Keaton - Iron Man
Next up, we have Josh Keaton providing his voice as Iron Man in "Marvel Rivals." Gamers probably recognize Keaton's voice from some major franchises, since he's voiced the human king Anduin Wrynn in "World of Warcraft" and Revolver Ocelot in "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater." Marvel fans, however, will no doubt be familiar with Keaton's work as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in a number of TV and video game adaptations dating back to "The Spectacular Spider-Man" in 2008. He's since played a number of other superheroes, including Green Lantern Hal Jordan, Barry Allen/The Flash, and billionaire Avenger Tony Stark/Iron Man.
Keaton has shared his love of Marvel in many interviews over the years, proving his nerd cred time and time again. Getting his start as a child actor in the film and television industry, he found himself gravitating more and more towards voiceover work, particularly when it came to bringing his favorite comic books to life. Now it's almost weird to play a comic book adaptation that doesn't have Keaton in it.
Alpha Takahashi - Psylocke
Voicing the mutant telepath/ninja Psylocke in "Marvel Rivals," we have Alpha Takahashi, a voice actor who is relatively new to the superhero genre. Fans may be familiar with Takahashi from her work in the movie "Kubo and the Two Strings," where she voiced Aiko, or from her roles in immersive RPGs such as "Starfield" or "Cyberpunk 2077."
Although many different voice actresses — including fellow "Marvel Rivals" cast member Laura Bailey — have had the chance to voice Psylocke in the past, Takahashi provides an excellent fresh take for the character. It seems like she's already having a fun time getting into character, as well. When the news came out that she was playing Psylocke, Takahashi posted on X, "Step aside, demons! Beyond thrilled to announce that I will be joining the X-Men as Psylocke in 'Marvel Rivals!' Excited and honored to join the journey of this iconic warrior." Fans have noted that Takahashi seems to enjoy dying her hair different fun colors, further proving that she's a match for the purple-haired Psylocke.
Scott Porter - Star-Lord
Joining the cast of "Marvel Rivals" as Star-Lord is the actor Scott Porter. Though he's probably better known to general audiences for his portrayals of Jason Street on the hit NBC drama "Friday Night Lights" and George Tucker in the CW's "Hart of Dixie," he's also built up an impressive resume of voiceover work. In particular, Porter has voiced a lot of Marvel characters, including the Winter Soldier, Moon Knight, Iceman, and of course, Star-Lord.
Having lent his voice to the character in projects dating back to 2017's "Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: A Telltale Series" Porter seems to have a great deal of affection for Star-Lord. When he was first cast as the character, Porter posted, "So stoked to finally say it out loud... I'm a Star-Lord, baby!" This excitement seems to have continued to "Marvel Rivals," with the actor commenting on Instagram, "Could not be more stoked to be back for more Peter Quill."
Cassandra Lee Morris - Galacta
Finally, lending her voice to "Marvel Rivals" announcer Galacta, we have Cassandra Lee Morris. Unlike many of her co-stars, Morris doesn't have any other Marvel roles on her resume before now. However, she does have dozens of video game and anime credits to her name. Prior to "Marvel Rivals," Morris made a name for herself as Morgana in "Persona 5" and its many spinoffs, Noriko in the "Blue Exorcist" franchise, and Leafa in the "Sword Art Online" universe. She's also already left a wonderful mark on Marvel fans who have already grown to love her contributions to "Marvel Rivals."
It's interesting to note that "Marvel Rivals" is the first time fans have been able to hear the voice of Galacta in any medium, making Morris the very first and definitive voice for this character. Proving that she does not take this milestone lightly, Morris posted on Instagram, "Beyond thrilled to announce that I am the voice of Galacta in 'Marvel Rivals!' To originate a voice in the Marvel universe is a dream come true for me."
