The Talos Principle Launches On Switch
The Talos Principle: Deluxe Edition, the acclaimed philosophical first-person puzzle game from Serious Sam developer Croteam, has come to Switch in a surprise launch.
"I wonder, who will you be, our children? Will you love us for having created you?"
In The Talos Principle, you explore a simulation of the greatest ruins of humanity as a sentient AI, solving over 120 increasingly complex puzzles "woven into a metaphysical parable about intelligence and meaning in an inevitably doomed world." The action unfolds in a non-linear setting, allowing you to forge your own path as you move between different locations linked together by an "arcane cathedral."
The Talos Principle maintains an "Overwhelmingly Positive" rating on Steam. IGN described it as "Portal meets Plato," awarding the puzzler an 8.3/10 following its release in 2014. "Barely a second goes by when it doesn't encourage you to either stretch the limits of your mind with some brutally tough but rewarding puzzles or to consider the nature of humanity and the conundrums of empiricist philosophy," wrote reviewer Leif Johnson. "The Talos Principle includes excellent puzzles and heady philosophy, but stumbles where the two intersect."
The Deluxe Edition comes with the Road to Gehenna expansion. Consisting of four episodes, the expansion contains some of the game's hardest puzzles incorporated into a narrative centered on mercy and redemption. "This is really superb. Wonderful new puzzles, not over-complicating or trying to be a level of impossible above what came before, but still offering new challenges and new scope for the same tools," gushed Rock, Paper, Shotgun's John Walker. "And a whole new story that lives within Talos's original, but is communicated entirely through community discussion, and feels extremely reactive to the dialogue choices you make. It's everything you could want an expansion to be."
You can purchase The Talos Principle: Deluxe Edition for $29.99 via the Nintendo Store.
