Spellbreak Is Fortnite With Sorcery, And It's Coming To PS4 Next Year
There are countless battle royale shooters out there right now. But how many battle royale magic games are there? Today we got a look at one of the more original games in the genre in quite some time. It's called Spellbreak, and it's set to arrive in beta on PlayStation 4 early next year.
"Spellbreak," according to the Official PlayStation Blog, "is a fantasy battle royale where you play as a battlemage, casting huge spells, combining primal elements, and literally flying through the world (or Teleporting, Shadowstepping, or a myriad of other movement abilities.)" All of that sounds pretty cool, and comes across as fairly unique when placed next to the other battle royale games out there right now.
But Spellbreak actually takes its fantasy influence a bit deeper than you might expect. You don't just get special powers, and you don't just get to fly or warp across the map in search of your enemies. You can actually unlock new skills and equip various powers, customizing your character as though you were playing an RPG. And there are character classes, to boot.
We're sure metas will develop around various characters and their setups at some point. But the fact still remains: You stand a very good chance on day one of using the same character as opposing players, yet having that character set up in a completely different way. That's not something that can be said of Fortnite, which lets you customize your cosmetics, but keeps all characters on a level playing field.
PlayStation 4 owners will get access to Spellbreak's beta sometime in early 2020. Aside from that, we don't have a firm release date for the full version of the title on PS4, nor do we know when we can expect it to officially launch on other platforms. As soon as we have some word on that front, we'll let you know.
