First, Respawn has increased the level cap from 100 to 500. This comes with a 5% decrease to the XP needed to hit level 100. The amount of Apex Packs you can earn has jumped from 45 to 199. Under the new system, players will now earn 59 Apex Packs from level 1-100. All players at level 100 will receive 14 Apex Packs when the update goes live as a retroactive reward for their efforts. Additionally, players will earn a new badge every 10 levels from 110-500.

Player Level Gun Charms will also debut in the update, with players earning a new charm for every 100 Player Levels they unlock. Respawn plans to distribute a total of 36 new Gun Charms into Epic and Legendary tier Apex Packs. They will also appear in the Rotating Shop for players who would like to purchase them directly.

These progression changes follow two big months for Apex Legends. On Oct. 1, the battle royale game entered Meltdown, its third season. Meltdown came with lots of additions and changes, including a new Legend and a new map. The first ever duos mode came and went, as did the Fight or Fright Halloween event. Respawn has continued to refine the game since its surprise launch at the start of 2019 and the next update marks one of the first major overhauls.

Apex Legends pulled in strong numbers after its debut and maintains a growing player base. Critics gushed about the game which, though it has its drawbacks, offers a refreshing spin on the battle royale genre.

The Apex Legends progression rework, level cap increase, and Gun Charms all go live on Dec. 3.
