Resident Evil 8 May Be In Development For Next-Gen Consoles
According to an alleged leak, the rumored Resident Evil 3 remake will be the final Resident Evil game to release for the current generation of consoles. The insider also suggests the fabled Resident Evil 8 will launch on the Xbox Scarlett and PlayStation 5.
After seeing massive success with this year's Resident Evil 2 remake, Capcom has announced plans to continue capitalizing on its considerable library of nostalgic IPs. The folks at Eurogamer also suggested Capcom started developing a Resident Evil 3 remake awhile ago. That said, we have some concerns as to whether this remake could enjoy the same success as its predecessor.
Twitter user Evil VR, the source of many Resident Evil 8 rumors, tweeted about the future of the Resident Evil franchise last week. According to their unnamed sources, we have a long time to wait before the next installment drops. "Don't expect #RE8 to come anytime soon for it was always planned to be for next-gen with the updated RE Engine, in which there are few new infos on the new engine and one of them is now having the cel-shading effect."
Whenever Resident Evil 8 launches, Evil VR says it will serve as a direct continuation of the story told in the horrifying and well-received Resident Evil 7. Remember all that goo and hallucinogenic fungus? There's more where that came from. The game will allegedly provide a more in-depth look at the secret laboratory teased at the end of 7 while returning to the good, old-fashioned third-person style gameplay the series has built its reputation on.
If Evil VR's sources prove genuine, we can look forward to all this and more on the next-gen consoles. After the Resident Evil 3 remake releases. For now, we'll have to wait for an official announcement from Capcom.
