This Game Will No Longer Get Updates Because The Developer Is Going To Jail
"Fortune's Run" is an amazing indie PC game inspired by classic first-person shooters like "Doom" and "Quake." The game has an intriguing sci-fi setting, retro visuals, and a deep RPG-inspired combat system that can take hours of practice to truly master. Fans have been loving this early access title for a while, but the game's most recent update is likely to be its last — at least for a long while.
In a blog post accompanying the update, solo developer Dizzie shared the shocking news that they've been sentenced to prison for the next three years. "It's a long story, but I've lived a very different life before I was a game developer, and I wasn't living very well," wrote Dizzie. They added, "I was a very violent person and I hurt a lot of people in my life." Dizzie said that the legal case is five years old and actually predates the development of "Fortune's Run." Dizzie also shared that the charges are not sexual in nature and that the case does not involve former co-developer Arachne, who left the project fairly recently.
Dizzie explained that "Fortune's Run" has made enough money that they'll be able to support themselves, and potentially return to development, when they're released from prison. "I am extremely passionate about this stuff and I'm never going to stop making games," Dizzie said. "I'd like to finish this one, but I don't know what will happen." Naturally, fans who were excited to see the game reach completion are devastated, but some remain hopeful for the future of their favorite indie FPS.
Fans are mourning the loss
Like other awesome games made by very few people, "Fortune's Run" has formed a tight-nit community of fans who are always up to date on the game's development. Because of that, devoted "Fortune's Run" players feel even more blindsided by this news, and they're sad to see such a promising game come to a halt before it's fully released.
Fans are especially shocked because "Fortune's Run" has already had a bumpy development cycle. Former co-developer Arachne had to step away from the game after suffering complications from a surgery in 2024.
It will be really sad to see Diz go back to prison, as she has been working hard for the last 5 years to rise above the incredibly bad hand she has been delt in life.
The fate of FR isn't fully decided based on what I've heard from her, but it will likely stay up in the store....

People who've gotten to know the devs on a more personal level through the "Fortune's Run" community and Discord are not only mourning the loss of a game, but also the loss of a friend.
oh what? I won't comment on the topic, as we have 0 clue wtf is going on there, but this is really sad for such a cool, unique and amazing project it's been so far. Was looking forward to share this gem with my community, but I guess this won't happen now. Big loss for the genre!

Even people who aren't particularly familiar with "Fortune's Run" are sad about this news. The boomer-shooter genre is pretty niche, and "Fortune's Run" is one of the more innovative entries to the field in a long time. There's still a chance that the game will see a full release someday, but that's not something fans can count on for now.
