Detroit: Become Human Comes To PC In December
Detroit: Become Human has received a PC release date, meaning Epic Games Store users can finally experience the awkward beauty of realizing you've fallen in love with a fictional android (here's looking at you, Connor).
Developer Quantic Dream shared its intentions to move away from PlayStation exclusivity back in January. Two of the company's other titles — Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls — launched on the Epic Games Store over the summer. Detroit: Become Human completes the trio of planned PC ports.
The adventure game unfolds in a futuristic version of Detroit where androids, who look and act just like humans, exist only to serve mankind. Unfolding across a branching narrative told from the third-person perspectives of three different androids, Become Human hits you with a number of moral and ethical quandaries centered on sentience, technology, ownership, and oppression. These elements combine with heart-pounding quick time events to form Quantic Dream's crowning achievement. It's not perfect but it will stick with you long after your first playthrough.
Detroit: Become Human launched to a strong reception back in April 2018. "Detroit: Become Human is a poignantly pulpy interactive sci-fi drama where your choices can impact events to a greater and more satisfying degree than in most games of this type," wrote IGN's Lucy O'Brien. "Most importantly, Detroit offers a multitude of transparent branching paths that entice further playthroughs, and choices have a permanence that raise the stakes throughout."
Though Detroit: Become Human can be a bit heavy-handed with its core themes, the three leads deliver captivating performances that keep you wanting more. This is augmented by Quantic Dream's remarkable performance-capture technology which delivers richly detailed characters and environments. It's easy to get sucked into each situation, especially as your choices alter the journeys and personalities of the protagonists and the people around them, potentially even culminating in their deaths.
Detroit: Become Human launches for PC via the Epic Games Store on December 12.
