Everwild Revealed As Rare's New IP
Rare is cooking up something new alongside its continuing support for Sea of Thieves. Today during Microsoft's X019 event, we finally got a glimpse of it.
Everwild was announced at the event as the newest intellectual property from Rare, and we'd be lying if we said the game didn't look absolutely gorgeous. The three-dimensional-yet-animated-looking world really pops, and the creatures contained within have us ready to dive in and pet every single one of them (except for the mean ones).
What we don't know at this point, however, is what exactly Everwild is.
The game looks to take place in an open world, and that world doesn't seem to resemble Earth. But we really don't have any solid details outside of that. There are multiple characters on screen in one instance, but no indication that the game might have a multiplayer component. We didn't catch any dialogue. Really, the trailer just panned around the beautiful scenery, showed us some strange-looking animals, and then said goodbye. We have no idea what we'll be doing in Everwild, nor when we might expect to see it release.
We're guessing that this title is a ways off; potentially a 2020 or 2021 release that could appear on Project Scarlett (though Microsoft could surprise us with an Xbox One launch, as well). Rare has a second team working on the title — apart from the Sea of Theives crew — so it's not necessarily the case that the studio's swashbuckling adventure is slowing down work on Everwild. Rather, development might not have started until sometime in the last year or two.
We'll be sure to keep an eye out for any other news on Everwild. It sure looks stunning, and we want to know more about it. It seems the game is just too early in its dev cycle for more information to be shared.
