Red Dead Redemption 2 Mod Turns Arthur Morgan Into The Joker
Red Dead Redemption 2 just came out on PC, but already fans are doing exactly what we expected: making a slew of mods for the game. The initial batch shows there's real promise for mods in the PC version of Rockstar's hit, but in light of a recent film release, one in particular has caught our eye.
On the website NexusMods, the RedDeadModders team has shared a skin for Arthur Morgan that turns him into the infamous Batman villain, The Joker.
The mod looks to be inspired more by Joaquin Phoenix's portrayal of the character, rather than the more cartoonish Joker we've come to know over the years. And really, we're just fine with that. We already have one bad joker coming to Mortal Kombat 11; we really don't need to see another. What'll be interesting, though, is to see how complete the makeover is. At this point in time, we only have an image of Arthur Morgan done up in The Joker's face paint. Will he get the whole clown suit outfit, or will Arthur Morgan roam the West as some kind of clown-cowboy hybrid?
We're also anxious to see if modders end up replacing some of Arthur's voice lines with dialogue more fitting for his Joker getup. We really, really want to wreak havoc on the frontier as a disturbing clown, but we're afraid hearing a "howdy" every now and again will throw us off our game.
In any event, we have our eyes out for an example of the mod on video. It doesn't seem as though anyone's been able to properly install it and capture footage just yet, but as soon as someone does, we'll definitely be looking for ways to share it.
More mods are coming to Red Dead Redemption 2
And that's not all when it comes to Red Dead 2 mods on PC.
A "RDR2 Photorealistic Reshade" mod promises to touch up some of the game's visuals, adding enhanced "colors, shadows, tonemapping, and sharpness." Another mod, called "Red Dead Redemption One Sound Files," replaces music in Rockstar's sequel with tunes from the original 2010 title. And a handful of helpful modders have released game saves, which enable players to skip the game's lengthy introduction, as well as jump straight into Chapter 2 (where the action really begins).
It's important to remember: it's still very early days for Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC. Like, the game literally just came out today. So modders are still digging their way through the game's files, discovering where certain assets are located, as well as what can and can't be modded. We'll undoubtedly see more Red Dead 2 mods pop up as time goes on, though as we think back to some mods in other recent titles, there are a few we'd love to see make the leap into Rockstar's Wild West opus.
For instance, wouldn't it be great to see a Thomas the Tank Engine replace the more realistic tank engines on Red Dead 2's trains? Perhaps someone could mod Resident Evil 2's Mr. X into the game somehow. Maybe they could even get him to stalk you all over the map, leaving you to wonder if stopping to camp for the night is such a good idea. And of course, Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC wouldn't be complete without a mod for the Untitled Goose. Just drop him into Strawberry or some other small town in the game and let him harass the townsfolk. We'd probably watch that for hours.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now on PC
If you never experienced Red Dead Redemption 2 on console, you don't have to wait very long to try it on PC. As we stated, the game is out today, which means you can finally take in the game's many gorgeous locations at 4K and 60 frames per second; that is, if your system can handle it. The PC version of Red Dead 2 will undoubtedly be the best looking port of the game, giving those with powerful enough hardware the chance to really crank up the visuals. And thanks to the more open nature of the PC platform, we'll inevitably see tons of mods like the ones we discussed earlier.
There's a good chance we'll have more to share about the various mods that come to Red Dead 2 in the days and weeks ahead. So if you're interested in learning about all the ways you can tweak Rockstar's monster title to your tastes, be sure to keep checking back.
