Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Launches On PC In January
It's been a long wait, but PC players now have a release date for Monster Hunter World's Iceborne expansion. The DLC will hit Steam on Jan. 9, 2020, and judging by the trailer for the release, those on PC are going to getting a far better Iceborne experience than those on console.
Feast your eyes on the video below, which shows Monster Hunter World: Iceborne running in 4K at 60 frames per second. It's marvelous.
Doesn't this look like the way Iceborne is supposed to be played?
Even on an Xbox One X, you're forced to choose between higher quality visuals or smoother frame rates, which means you're either rolling around less detailed monsters at 40 to 50 frames per second, or you're seeing the game in all its splendor at 30 frames per second. The Iceborne expansion for PC, however, promises a number of improvements to make that platform the premier spot for Hunters. For example, players will have access to high resolution texture packs right out of the gate, so playing in 4K will look extra sharp. Ultra widescreen support will also be included for those playing on 21:9 displays. PC frame rates will be uncapped, so really, you could take those frames as high as your build (and your display) will allow. And hey, there's DirectX 12 support, too!
The only bad thing about Iceborne on PC is the fact that it's not out already. We're sure there are some folks on both PC and console who've had to make very hard decisions in terms of whether they'd wait for the PC version — which was undoubtedly going to be better — or jump on the console version early. It's the same issue gamers likely had with Red Dead Redemption 2, and we had a similar reaction upon seeing that game's PC trailer, too.
In any event, PC Monster Hunter: World players can get their hands on Iceborne on Jan. 9, 2020. If you've managed to hold out this long, congratulations: you only have a few short months to go.
