How Long Does It Take To Beat Children Of Morta?
In Dead Mage's Children of Morta, you hack 'n slash as not one character, but a whole family intent on stopping the spread of corruption to their hallowed lands. Each member of the Berguson family has their own unique weapons and fighting styles to wield as they descend into dungeons and fight the horrors that wait there. With six wholly fleshed out characters to try out, how long does it take to beat Children of Morta?
The main story in Children of Morta takes around 14 hours to complete, but don't be afraid to take your time. As a roguelite (as opposed to a roguelike), each run through the dungeons ends when you do. Dying brings you to a new area rather than being forced to start over, and over, and over again depending on your skill level. These runs have been clocked at around 10-15 minutes, making Children of Morta a good game for quick breaks.
Children of Morta also features local co-op if you'd like a friend to share the screen and your adventure through Mount Morta. Each co-op run is unique, with items and loot to squabble over, but the game is apparently lackluster when it comes to replayability.
Most importantly, Children of Morta is a narrative-driven game. It is "a story of simple emotions we all know so well and value more than sometimes we dare to admit: love and hope, longing and uncertainty, ultimately loss and sacrifice we are willing to make to save the ones we care the most for." Does that sound deep? That's because it really is.
Until there is news of expansions or maybe even an endless runner mode, as is popular in the roguelike and roguelite genre, those initial 14-some hours are all you'll sink into Children of Morta, a beautiful and inventive pixel art game from Dead Mage.
