Deadpool & Wolverine's Obscene Popcorn Bucket Lives In New Fortnite Leak

"Fortnite" is no stranger to superhero crossovers — the Marvel-themed "Absolute Doom" season is still running, after all — but fans are getting extra excited for an upcoming character skin that ties in with "Deadpool & Wolverine." At this year's D23, fans got a preview of Fishstick's very own Deadpool costume, while new leaks have given us an even closer look at Fishpool's design.

Thanks to data miners and content creator iFireMoney, we've got a really clear idea of what the Fishpool costume looks like, but it's not the super suit that's caught the attention of most fans. People are really latching onto the sight of Fishpool's popcorn bucket accessory: It looks like Fishpool's head with a tiny bit of seaweed sticking out of the top, but anyone who followed the marketing leading up to the "Deadpool & Wolverine" theatrical release knows exactly what this is meant to reference. The film's raunchy tie-in popcorn bucket got a lot of attention and made quite a few headlines when it was first unveiled. There are a handful of things in "Fortnite" made strictly for adults, and this sly reference to an R-rated joke is definitely one of them. Fans think it's hilarious that "Fortnite" is going to immortalize one of the grossest jokes that Deadpool ever made.

The "Deadpool & Wolverine" popcorn bucket is the kind of nightmarish creation that never leaves your brain after you've seen it. In fact, the design was so jarring that some people probably forgot the bucket was itself a reference the accidentally-horrifying bucket that was sold alongside tickets to "Dune: Part 2." Leave it to Deadpool to commit to a bit so fully that the joke overwrites reality.

Fans can't believe that "Fortnite" is continuing the joke. However, some people have spotted a pretty significant difference between Deadpool's popcorn bucket and the one that Fishpool is carrying.

Of course, even when it's making a "Deadpool" reference, "Fortnite" has to keep things a little more PG-13. There are plenty of fans who aren't overjoyed to be getting yet another Fishstick skin, but thanks to the popcorn bucket nod, this one is at least a little more memorable than some of the skins we've gotten in the past. There still isn't an official release date for the new Fishpool skin, but whenever it drops, prepare yourself to experience a visceral popcorn bucket flashback every time you log in for a match.
