The Best Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero Mods (While We Wait For Shaggy)

From its ridiculously large character roster to its plethora of game modes, "Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero" is blowing everyone away. Fans have been waiting for a spiritual successor to the "Dragon Ball: Budokai Tenkaichi" series for a long time, and "Sparking! Zero" doesn't disappoint. There's enough here to last players another decade, but since "Sparking! Zero" is also open to modders, the game's already gotten a ton of fresh fan-created content.

There are some great "Sparking! Zero" mods already in circulation, but the one we really want to see is still suspiciously missing. For years, Shaggy has been making great games even better, but he's taking his time getting to "Sparking! Zero." Luckily, modders have been hard at work adding some even stranger characters to the game, as well as finding a few other ways to improve the overall experience. While we wait for Scooby's pal to be added to the game, here's a roundup of our favorite "Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero" mods we've seen so far.

Buff Winnie is your new challenger

We're starting things off right with one of the strangest mods that we've ever seen. The Buff Winnie Broly Super mod replaces Broly's character model with a beloved childhood hero, but as the name implies, this isn't quite the Winnie the Pooh you remember. Buff Winnie looks like he's already gone Super Saiyan, or, at the very least, like he's been hitting the gym for a couple of years on end (and he's still without pants).

It's honestly a little difficult to say who this mod is for, but you're guaranteed to get a big reaction out of your friends if you install this before getting together for another round of battles. Fans are already having a ball pitting Winnie against some of the other modded characters on this list.

Donkey Kong Vegeta is the hardest boss in the game

"Sparking! Zero" has a lot in common with "Black Myth: Wukong," but some "Dragon Ball" fans weren't excited about both games going all-in on the extreme difficulty. There are some seriously tough bosses in "Sparking! Zero," and Great Ape Vegeta might just be the hardest of them all. So many fans have come to a dead stop against the encounter that Bandai Namco even put out a PSA advising people to just change the game's difficulty settings to get through the fight.

To be completely clear, the Donkey Kong as Vegeta Ape mod does absolutely nothing to address the difficulty of the boss fight, but it will help to mix things up if you've gotten bored after grinding Great Ape Vegeta for hours on end. When you just can't stand to look at the transformed Vegeta for one more second, you can pit Goku against Great Ape Donkey Kong for a change of pace.

San Andreas comes to DBZ

This one might not be much of a surprise, but it's always fun to see. Carl Johnson from "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" has long been a go-to character for modders. When "Black Myth: Wukong" mods got out of hand earlier this year, CJ was a big draw for players looking to run through the game with a whole new vibe. Naturally, CJ has already made his "Dragon Ball" debut.

Modders currently have CJ in the Goku character slot, so he's got quite a few moves that he didn't have in his own game. It's hard to imagine "San Andreas" playing out quite the same way if CJ had been able to fire a Kamehameha. Pair him with a Big Smoke character mod to take Goku and Vegeta's rivalry to the next level.

Shrek helps you fight like an ogre

Much like with CJ, it wouldn't be a proper modding scene without someone adding Shrek to the game. Modders currently have Shrek's model placed on the Toppo character slot, but it probably won't be long before you can replace whichever character you want with Far Far Away's favorite ogre.

Shrek doesn't have any custom moves at the moment, so don't expect to charge into a game with special swamp techniques. Still, there's something to be said about the emotional damage you'll deal to your enemies by crushing them as Shrek. If that appeals to you, or if you just can't get enough classic Dreamworks vibes in your life, then this is a mod for you. Gamers are already testing Shrek's powers against CJ and Great Ape Donkey Kong.

Let's fight somewhere else!

"Dragon Ball" has been around long enough to spark more than a few memes, and in a bit of a weird feedback loop, this mod takes its name from the "lets fight somewhere empty" memes that fans have been using to dunk on unpopular media for years. The mod doesn't actually take you to an empty arena, but it does give you access to locations — like menu maps and special story mode-specific maps — that you wouldn't normally be able to use for your battles.

The mod adds a custom tab where you can unlock new maps by typing in their in-game key. This is a great way to inject a little extra variety into the game without changing your go-to character.

A little performance boost is always welcome

Basically everyone agrees that "Sparking! Zero" looks great, and it manages to perfectly capture the visual style that's made "Dragon Ball" such an enduring franchise. At the same time, every game could use a little help from time to time, so modders have already created a Performance Enhancer mod to help people get the most out of the game. It removes the game's 60 FPS cap, so PC gamers with a good rig can really let the framerate run wild.

The mod also throws in some other small visual options, like an upscaler and the ability to remove bloom effects. Sometimes small changes make a big difference, and if you want better a visual performance out of "Sparking! Zero," this is a great place to start.
